Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig

About This Item

Design update: now works for ukuleles, too!
Cut perfect soundholes and rosette channels for guitars and ukes.

Easy and accurate, this jig now adjusts from 6"-diameter to a small 2" cut for ukuleles.

Another innovation from StewMac
The Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig is a quality machined tool, designed to be used with our Precision Router Base and works with your Dremel. Router base and rotary tools are not included.

  • Solid aluminum and brass parts
  • Adjusts from 2" to 6"-diameter cuts (50.8mm to 152.4mm)
  • Indexing scale to quickly set routing diameter
  • 3/16" registration pin for perfectly concentric circles
  • Mounting screws and instructions included

How it works
Attach the jig to the router base, then mount your Dremel or Foredom tool. Insert the registration pin through the center of the uncut soundhole, and into your work surface. Place the jig on the pin. Set the diameter of cut with the adjusting screw, and lock it down. The router base adjusts the cutting depth. Rout your rosette rings first, then cut out the soundhole.

For the cleanest cut when routing tonewoods, we recommend the Carbide Downcut Bits.

Perfect first time.

Not 30 minutes ago I finished the segmented rosette on my redwood topped acoustic guitar. This is my first time routing the channel and the circle guide worked perfectly. I used it with the StewMac dremmel plunge base with it to cut the segmented rosette. Couldn't ask for better results.

Very accurate tool, well designed and well built, made to last. I would recommend this to any luthier, or even anyone who loves making things and being crafty as it's applications don't end with instrument making.

Excellent design

Very well thought out design, straightforward in use. I wonder if the staining issue some people are having could be prevented by anodizing the baseplate? I do not get the same staining (which is just aluminum or oxide particles rubbing off the raw aluminum) with other tools I have made from anodized aluminum stock.

Miles in front of the Dremel circle cutter!

I have used a dremel circle cutter for years and finally decided to buy this one. It is so much easier to set up and works as described. A real time saver.

re: marks left by the base

you can easily remove those marks with Naphtha, with a clean cloth. Which you should use anyhow before finishing the instrument. It removes any grease or fingerprints, etc. I did have issues getting the right base and router combination, and I had to do some modificationsà.I have 3 dremel tools here...

Routed my first rosette and binding channels with this jig and it worked perfectly. Like another user mentioned the base did leave marks on the soundboard but it sands off in minutes.

staining/leaving marks

Again this is a great tool. Very accurate. There have been some issues with the aluminum staining or marking the top as the cutter is turned. Also, I have noticed a couple of solutions offered. Try this. Get a blank self adhesive pick guard and attach it to the bottom of the jig. Trim and slightly bevel the edge and you are in business. Very smooth gliding across the spruce and mark free.
