Fingerboard Band Clamp

About This Item

An ingenious idea borrowed from violinmakers, these economical clamps are a quick, efficient way to glue a fingerboard onto a neck.

You won't need to spend time making cumbersome custom-shaped wooden cauls trying match a radiused fingerboard surface, either. The toothed outer surface of the flexible glue-resistant band engages a threaded plastic thumbnut that adjusts the clamping pressure. The flexible cradle conforms to the instrument's neck to help protect the finish.

We recommend positioning a band clamp every 3" along the fingerboard.

Actually a good item...

... but I must say that taking simple fabric Velcro stripes is much more convenient to me. Maybe I can use that fingerboard band clamps for other jobs.

Great pressure

These clamps are great for repairing any fingerboard separation, as well as Brocken head stocks that have traveled down the neck. By making some half circle caulks to put on the fingerboard section, you can add to the clamping pressure without damaging the edges of the fingerboard. Will for sure buy more in the future.

My happy guitar neck

I repaired a 1950's Harmony Archtop recently. Steamed and separated the fretboard from the neck and replaced it with another of Stew Mac. These clamps did their job flawlessly. There are absolutely no gaps on the new glue joint. They are a little cumbersome to use but they gave me unbelievable results for the price listed. The recommend spacing Stew recommend was perfect. All Hail Stew! My Guitar neck is happier than ever!

Cuts into the fretboard and neck!

By

Not only did this cut into the fretboard and neck, it still did not apply enough pressure to squeeze my fretboard down. It's an interesting design and a nice try but it damages the wood. I'm usually the optimistic 5 star kind of reviewer. I really wanted to like these up until they created more work :(

Ingenious

Gluing the fretboard on is among the most difficult jobs we face. Like everyone here I've tried a dozen methods which I would or wouldn't recommend. These clamps - no looking back now. Good for repairs and building, won't stick to most glues, self-adjusting and just the right amount of pressure! I'd wish they were a bit more flexible as they may break on the sharp fretboard edges, so you may need some padding.

Useful item

These clamps do what they are supposed to do, and nothing more. They are time-consuming and sometimes nerve-racking to handle but they do a great service at aligning a fretboard with a neck. So I use 2, one at the nut and one at the heel, and use a radiused clamping block for the rest. Otherwise one needs to use at least 8 of these in order to prevent a wavy joint. Also, they do strip and break eventually...
