Bridge Clamping Caul

About This Item

This device is easy to set up and needs only a single extra clamp, such as the Ibex Bridge Clamp.

Our machined aluminum caul is 5-7/8" long and 1" wide, and has a slightly arched bottom to accommodate most bridges on flattop steel-string acoustic guitars.

It's padded with thick cork on the underside and on the thumbscrew-adjustable end clamps.

Works fine...could be improved

I have tried deep reach clamps with homemade cauls, vacuum clamps etc. This tool works as well as any of those methods. I wish it was a little bulkier and a little deeper front to back but the screw down ends are fantastic to deal with getting pressure to those spots. Like another reviewer said, flexing and lifting is a problem at higher pressures but most of the clamping pressures where these issues occur are at the limits of how much pressure one should apply in a clamping situation.

Nothing bad to say here, if you are fixing raised bridges then this is a needed tool. Strong and will outlast you and me.

Works perfectly. I used 2 bridge clamps. I also used the caul when replacing a Bridge Plate.

dissapointing

un-even pressure, top distorts aqnd lifts centre of caul off of bridge, tried inserting wedges to no avail, minimal glue squeeze out at bridge ends meaning 3 clamps are a much better option. nice idea but it simply doesnt work effectively. Another one for the unused tool box :(

It's ok

Overall it worked ok. Cork fell off after first use.
Overall height is to thick. Most of my clamps wouldn't open wide enough to use. It would be nice if the outside screws were slotted. Most of the bridges I tried this on were just barely catching the ends of the screws.

Reasonable tool

Works ok, corks slipped off the end clamps after first use. The ibex bridge clamp that partners this caul could be slightly deeper to provide better clearance of the cross braces.

Extremely Helpful

Yes, you can do the same thing with just clamps. This takes the danger out of adding all that weight and multiple clamp points underneath the bridge. You can get away with a single, smaller caul underneath and distribute the pressure evenly across the bridge.

Breeze to Use

I was in the process of repairing a Fender DG-5 as a project guitar and had to reglue the bridge. This along with the soundhole clamps did a great job! Only 4 stars because one of the end clamps was missing the cork protectors.

Worked, but a little gimmicky

Usually when something sounds too good to be true - it is. That is what I found to be the case with this clamp. To be fair - it did the job on the classical guitar I used it on, but I would highly recommend just going for several regular soundhole clamps - you'd get much better, more even clamping pressure that way. If you look back through the trade secrets archive, you'll see that Dan, Eric etc always use multiple clamps.
