Micro-Mesh Soft Touch Pads

About This Item

Extra-gentle hand polishing for high-gloss finishes. Each pad features Micro-Mesh® resilient abrasive on both sides of a foam center. The cushioning allows gentle polishing of finished surfaces to a mirror gloss.

The set of nine pads includes #1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12000 grits. Use the grits in sequence to achieve a super gloss.

Micro-Mesh features tiny abrasive crystals on resilient cloth-backed latex. These gentle "cushioned" particles generate less heat and friction than ordinary finishing papers, don't load up as quickly, and last up to 15 times longer.

Use Micro-Mesh Soft Touch Pads with a little soapy water as a lubricant to produce a scratch-free mirror shine (avoiding soaking the pads in water when not in use). We use these regularly in our own shops for finish touch-ups and repairing scratches on pickguards. Use them on for polishing frets, too.

Love these for so many jobs

These certainly aren't only for finishing or finish repairs. I use them for fret polishing as well as many other polishing type jobs. Great item and the color code chart is pretty accurate, not perfect so you've got to pay attention to the shades, but it's workable. I just need to figure out a good way to wash them after doing fret work because the oxidation (I guess that's what I'd call it) that transfers to the sanding pad gets kinda messy and if you're working with an unfinished maple fretboard you can easily make more work for yourself, not to mention it carries over to the next job. I'd buy them again though, they're priceless to me.

You sent a color coded chart to let the user know what grit a certain color is, colors don't match at all, the chart is pretty much useless. I had to just sort of feel my way along to figure ou t grits of each sanding block. I would expect more, you certainly charge a premium for the micro mesh, you should have each block easily identifiable.

Thumbs up from a retired Boeing engineer

Just an amateur, though I've finished about 7 guitar with these pads during the last 9 months. I do my own sanding systems. reg. sandpaper: 320, 600. 1200 these pads: 2400, 4000 and maybe 6000 or 8000 if I so desire. Or I may do 400, 800. 1500, these pads: 3200, 6000. Or 400, 1000, 2000,(these pads) 3600, 6000 and if I want to 8000 or 12000. I usually stop at 6000, it's like a 3 month old new guitar. I usually use only 3 of these pads, and each pad has 4 halves so I can do at least 4 guitars with each pad. Again, I'm just a self taught amateur, and it takes me 3 hours approx. to finish a guitar, but it's fun.

Great micro pads for all Shiny!

I use the micro mesh on so many things. Nut finishing, spot repair finishing, fret polishing and more. I get far more use when I started cutting sections in strips, I start off with using them with fret polishing. After they show wear, they go to the finishing box then to the general purpose box of whatever I need for General patch repairs. They last a long time.

As always the great customer service and fast shipping, which as most of us know is a StewMac trademark. The micro mesh pads are awesome, polishing frets in particular. My only issue is the colors, they are not even close to being as distinct as in the photo. You have to rely more on sense of touch than the visual.

Great Product!

Bought an unloved, mistreated - but absolutely gorgeous Yamaha Compass Guitar, circa 1996 off Craig's List (yea.. I know...).

Guitar had a narrow crack right down the middle on the soundboard (face). Previous owner SUPER-GLUED all over it with a brush or something! Never even took the strings off, so was both before and after the bridge - all over the face...

Bought this kit and some other products from StewMAc. Waited patiently for supplies - not easy to do BTW... but worth waiting for the proper tools - and this sanding kit was the key.

With some a little elbow grease, lots of patience, and a lot of TLC - and.. she is back! So happy with the results. Glue is all sanded off, crack sealed, compounded, buffed, finish is like glass! Lemon-oiled the fret-board, new strings - She is now "happy" and hanging proudly with the family :-) Thank you Stew-Mac!

Great for a mirror finish on frets

By

I use these specifically for frets. Tape off the neck, level and crown as per usual and then work these through to 12,000 and then buff. Your frets will be smoother, shinier and feel like glass to play on. If you are after the highest quality finish on your frets for your clients, you just cannot go past these. Mirror finish. It will set your fretwork one step above the rest.

Gets frequent use in my shop

I use these pads a lot in my shop, for a variety of jobs. I cut them in to small strips for easier use in tight areas. They last a long time if treated gently and cleaned after each use. Worth the effort to do so.
