3M Gold Fre-Cut Sandpaper

About This Item

Our favorite papers for dry sanding. They last longer! The premium aluminum oxide abrasive cuts fast and resists clogging, for better efficiency.

Treated to help prevent "fisheyes" (cratering) in waterbase finishes. These papers last longer—we use them in our own shops.

Sold individually in 9" x 11" (23cm x 28cm) sheets.

These papers are graded on the "P-scale," indicating a truly uniform cutting surface (read about abrasive grading scales in our Finishing Step-by-Step book).

Here's how we use these abrasives in our own instrument shops:
"After spraying the build coats on my guitar finishes, I sand with 320 grit Fre-Cut, then spray and sand again. Then I move on to 400, 600, and 800 grit. Don't skip grits! Using all the grits makes the work easier for each sheet, and they last a lot longer."
Todd Sams, StewMac Production Manager and builder of Sams guitars

Quick cutting, non-loading

Used on a headstock repair recently and was impressed with the quick cutting action with out the paper loading up. Just tap the paper and it's clean. The grit holds up well too. Good value and effective tool for finishing and wood working.

In about 40 years in the trade I never came across a better sanding paper.

most consistent grit and longest lasting I have found. does what wet sanding does without the water so you can always see how you're doing without wiping.

I have been using the 3m Gold sandpaper for years now. This paper is simply the best I have ever found. Amazingly consistent and uniform. A much better value than cheap paper since this lasts much longer.

Great product for all the grits.

Love the 3M Gold Frecut sandpaper. The only thing I would like is to go a step or two further than 800 grit but maybe not possible. You can buff after 800 but it does add a little more effort at the wheel.

This is definately in a class of its own. I'd be happy to recommend this to any one for their wood prep and cutting back between coats of lacquer...

does exactly what it says, cuts uniformly, minimal loading, outlasts anything else I have tried. I use it dry and the results are better than wet sanding w/o the mess...

The best most important sandpaper in the shop. I use it every day. Another high quality product you can count on.
