Super quick & easy way to smooth out nut slots & saddle grooves. The size 0.015 worked perfectly.

Great bargain for what you get.

Based on the StewMac video (and relatively low cost), I figured I'd pick up some abrasive cord for around the shop. Tried it out on a nut the other day, and the before/after difference was stark. Smoother tuning, no catches. It won't make up for an improperly cut nut - slots too narrow, too high, etc. - but it'll take any burs or sharp edges off of a well cut slot. Haven't had a chance to use it on saddles yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Definitely one of those 'secret weapon' tools.

Perfect for final string setup!

This abrasive cord is the best product I have in my shop. It puts a perfect round-bottom finish on nut and saddle string slots eliminating slot buzzing and binding. I couldn't live without this product!

For maximum results with the nut-slotting files, you must get this, too.

At Dan's advice in the video, I ordered the abrasive cord for smoothing out the rounded-out bottoms of the new slots. Without Dan's advice, I wouldn't have known to buy these. I've used them on a few old guitars, just to clean up the slots on the nuts, and the result is amazing. Next time you change strings, take a minute to smooth-out the nut slots. You'll be surprised at how smoothly and quickly you tune-up your new strings. Great product.

Works great except on metal saddles

This works great except when you are using the .015 on metal saddles like ones found on les Paul's. The metal seems to wear the string out but if you use this for things like nut slots it works perfect

Incredible Utility

As a first time user, I wasn't sure what to expect. Will the cord hold strong under vigorous applications? Will the abrasive particles hold-up for a reasonable time before losing effectiveness? etc... Well, I must say I'm very pleased overall! The cord strength is impressive under tension and friction. The sanding effectiveness is sufficient for most guitar repair and mod jobs. The rough sanding particles wear-out fairly quickly in my opinion though, however leaving behind a finer polishing grit that works well for finishing up a particular job and leaving a softer, less friction prone surface. How 'bout that?!
For the record, I have so far used the various gauge cords to clean-up string slots on my acoustic guitar nut, polish my Strat's bridge saddles at contact point, shape and finish angled bevels I drilled into the Strat bridge plate to eliminate the sharp contact points where strings make contact with the plate after exiting the bridge block.
I'm hoping now that the cords will serve me well in re-cutting and reforming the pre-cut bone nut for the Strat I ordered from Stewmac, which surprisingly turned-out to be the wrong size in every dimension!
Anywho, I definitely recommend these little stringy guys for all DIY'ers and guitar tinkering fanatics out there!

Works as advertised

I ordered this to add a small ramp to my string through uke bridges which have a 1/16" hole.
It works well and should last a while.

After using the .030" cord, I came back and cleaned up the look of the (tiny) ramps with a small tapered file which gave it a final clean look.

I can see me using this in a few other areas of the built to.

It really works on bone, didn't try on other materials.
