The Finishing touch to nuts and saddles

It's true, this is the best (and easiest) way to clean out burrs made by your nut slotting files. Buy all 4 sizes, you won't be sorry. Wish I would have bought these a long time ago.

Great for very lightly notching brass tele barrel saddles

By

I wanted very light notches in some tele barrel saddles so that they were invisible when the strings were installed but would be enough to keep the strings from drifting. Sure, sandpaper might work but working with the abrasive cord, I could replicate the string break over the barrel exactly and only remove material exactly where it mattered.

I started by adjusting the strings on the saddles to get really even string spacing across the fretboard. Then I marked each barrel with a sharp pencil along either side of the string. Next, I removed the string. Since I only wanted the abrasive cord on the saddle, I tied a piece of thin string to the abrasive cord and dropped the thin string through the body. Then I grabbed the string out the back of the guitar and applied tension across the top of the saddle holding both ends of the cord and string just as if it were the actual guitar string. The thin string I attached glided smoothly through the bridge and body while the small bit of abrasive cord at the other end worked the light notch into the saddle. I progressed from thinner cord to slightly thicker until I saw what I wanted. When the strings were reinstalled the notches were completely invisible since they followed the exact break of the string over the saddle. Best yet, the string drift was gone. Basically what this accomplished was replicating several years worth of string notching on the saddles in about 15 minutes. It's subtle, very subtle, but accomplished what exactly what I wanted.

Good Stuff

I've got 6 bodies I'm working on so I'm not quite ready to use it. I did play with an old nut and I did like the finish I got with it. I'm hoping I can use it with the string slots in my bridges to make a cleaner ramp. Y]Thanks

Must Have for Nut & Saddle Work

I bought this assortment for use on guitar nuts & saddles. I haven't tried for sanding on tight inside corners, I'm sure it will work fine.

I did not know I needed them until I had them!

These abrasive cables are something that have come in handy on a number of occasions recently, from finishing a newly cut nut to adding string ramps in a bridge and dressing up some old worn nuts on some of my older guitars. It's a "tool" that seems to find a use for itself! I bought the 4 pack and have used 3 of the 4 cords, but I'm sure that the 4th one will be used shortly. These are a very useful tool for a relatively small investment.

Awesome stuff here!

I've been contemplating the purchase of Mitchell Abrasive Cord for quite awhile, but doggedly stuck with my old standby folded sandpaper for polishing nut slots. This is MUCH easier, and is just the right shape for the slot bottom, plus very flexible. Gee, why didn't I get this sooner? I'm sure I'll find other uses as well.
