Understring Radius Gauges

About This Item

Fast, accurate bridge saddle adjustment.
Each of these unique gauges has an accurately radiused arc on both the top and bottom surfaces, and is shaped to fit easily under the strings.

Use the bottom curvature to determine your fretboard radius, and the matching top curvature becomes a reference for setting string saddle heights for best playability.

Low profile fits tight spots. The slim shape of our understring gauges allow you to read the fretboard radius even with the strings on! This is also handy for matching pickup polepiece heights to the arc of the strings. And setting bridge saddles is easier than ever.

The set of 9 gauges includes:
7-1/4", 9-1/2", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17" and 20" radii.

Standard width 6-string guitars and most 4-string basses—spans a string spread up to 2-5/8" (66.68mm).

Extra-wide covers string spreads up to 3-3/4" (95.25mm)—enough for 4-string, 5-string, and many 6-string basses. They'll also handle 7-string and 8-string guitars.

Stainless steel.

Pretty handy

I bought these as I was doing my first real tele set up. While the String Action Gauge is the most important tool for adjusting saddle height, it is a pain to see the heights of all the strings (without getting the other strings out of the way). Using the radius gauge underneath is an easy quick way to get the relative heights right. They also come in handy for checking fretboard radii on any guitar.

GREAT TO HAVE!

I had never used these before to do a setup on my guitars and basses. I finally broke down and bought a set of these and I have to say that using these is precisely what I have been missing from my setups. Using these gets you just that much closer to perfection. I wish I had bought a set years ago! Great to have!

Love my Radius Gauges, AND the Stew-Mac people!

I just ordered my new set of Extra-Wide radius gauges today. I have two sets of the standard ones, an old plastic set, and a newer metal one. But what I REALLY love is that you people LISTEN to us guitar techs out there. I think it was just short of a year ago that I dropped you a line suggesting this product, and VOILA! Here it is! You guys AND your tools are the best! Happy to be part of the "family" for so many years, and thank you.

They are a necessary tool.
Nice set of gauges.
Only thing is they're a bit pricey or would have gotten 5 stars.
Thanks again Stew-Mac!

Amazing crafted quality! Very accurate in measurements! Helped solved so many unanswered questions I had regarding proper nut shaping and fitting, bridge saddles set-up, string to fretboard alignment, etc... Extremely useful and handy, especially with the ability to measure string radius and alignment going UNDER the strings!
Definitely recommend!

Every stringed musician should have a set

I have been playing guitar for twenty years on and off the stage professionally. What I never understood was that my guitars were always at a different radius at my bridge than the fretboard radius due to simple neglect. I have found that there are a lot of professional players out there who ignore these simple setup techniques and the difference is noticeable live on stage and on recordings. I certainly will never be making this mistake again on stage or in the studio now that I have my set. All of my guitars are getting this treatment from now on.

Also I really like the ability to store them on your keychain!
