Understring Radius Gauges

About This Item

Fast, accurate bridge saddle adjustment.
Each of these unique gauges has an accurately radiused arc on both the top and bottom surfaces, and is shaped to fit easily under the strings.

Use the bottom curvature to determine your fretboard radius, and the matching top curvature becomes a reference for setting string saddle heights for best playability.

Low profile fits tight spots. The slim shape of our understring gauges allow you to read the fretboard radius even with the strings on! This is also handy for matching pickup polepiece heights to the arc of the strings. And setting bridge saddles is easier than ever.

The set of 9 gauges includes:
7-1/4", 9-1/2", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17" and 20" radii.

Standard width 6-string guitars and most 4-string basses—spans a string spread up to 2-5/8" (66.68mm).

Extra-wide covers string spreads up to 3-3/4" (95.25mm)—enough for 4-string, 5-string, and many 6-string basses. They'll also handle 7-string and 8-string guitars.

Stainless steel.

Perfect for Setting the Radius of the Strings

By

This is another must-have tool if you want to do the job right in setting up the action of a guitar. It comes with nine gauges ranging from a 20 inch radius down to a 7.25 inch radius. Using the gauge appropriate for the guitar being worked on, the tool easily fits under the strings allowing you to accurately adjust the saddles for the correct string curvature to achieve the lowest possible action. Did I say that this is another must-have tool? Thanks StewMac!

When setting up your guitar this is a must have.

In addition to the string action gauge this is a must have tool for getting a precisely accurate set up on your fixed bridge guitar. Just align the top and bottom saddles with the string action guage, raise the middle section and lower the action to the curvature of the of the proper guaged string action radius guage.

Makes a difference

Having these tools to match the radius at the bridge to the neck definitely makes a difference in how a guitar will play. I tried to buy a cheap set from China but they were nowhere near the quality of these and I couldn't trust that the measurements were precise. Great to have in the tool kit.

I'm not a luthier, I make custom knives but I bought the radius gauges as I've worked on my 4 guitars and found that the saddle on two of them needed to be adjusted. I also lowered the action slightly on my two Martins. Terrific sound on all of them now and I now know what radius they all have. If you're serious about repairing guitars, you definitely need a set of radius gauges. I would definitely recommend them.
