About This Item

For cleaner refret jobs!
Pulling old frets can chip a fretboard: keep the slots clean and glue-free for repairs.

It's hard to avoid a few fingerboard chips when pulling out old frets. A piece of this .020" non-stick Teflon® in the fret slot will help keep your epoxy or super glue out of the slot as you replace or fill the chips. It pulls out easily after the glue is dry. You'll do a cleaner job, save work, and make refretting easier. The .020" x 6" x 6" (.508mm x 152.4mm x 152.4mm) sheet can be trimmed with scissors to the re-usable sizes you need.

A word from Grit Laskin, the King of Inlay:
"My inlay work frequently necessitates large cavities shockingly near to fret slots. In the past, I had no choice but to let epoxy spill over into the slot, requiring me to melt it out, afterward, with a heated saw tip. Then, along came my new best friend, StewMac's Fret Dam. This saves me so much work and completely eliminates the potential for accidental damage of the fret slots, the inlay or the fretboard binding. Now, I won't do a single inlay project without it!"

Teflon® is a registered trademark of DuPont.

Exactly what is needed for the task. One piece did the whole job. Even with binding, one piece can be trimmed down as you work across the neck towards the nut.

Great for Repairs and Inlays

Do repairs without filling up the fret kerf. Great to use when you have epoxy inlays that span fret locations and kerfs are already cut. Glues and epoxies will not stick to it.

perfect for fretslots but I also use it to hold a few drops of superglue on ti (it needs a lot more time to cure ) and then I'm taking it from there with a little piece of teflon so I can take how much I need and drop it precisely.

$5 may seem like a lot, but the square is pretty big and of course re-usable since nothing sticks to it!

These fret dams work well to keep your fret slots clean while being in a place that will leave you a good straight edge for replacing the fret after repairing the chipped edges on the side of fret slots that happen when pulling frets

Found a new use for mine, I used a ball peen hammer and pinged out washers for my stew mac guitar vise, much smoother operation now, in my opinion anyway.
