Notched Straightedge

About This Item

Read the fretboard instead of the frets. Developed in our shop, the notched straightedge has become a standard for evaluating fretboards.

The notches fit right over the frets so you can check the straightness of the fretboard itself, without the interference of worn or badly-seated frets.

Made of machined stainless steel, satin-finished for easy marking with a pencil (cleans off easily).

#3814 For guitars
One edge is notched for Gibson "long scale", plus Fender and Martin fretboards. The other edge fits Gibson's 24-3/4" scale, plus 25" Paul Reed Smith and Dobro® Scale.

Length 16-1/2" (420mm)
Width 1-1/2" (38mm)
Thickness .130" (3.25mm)

#3813 For basses

Notched Straightedge Guitar Scale Tool !

By
(Customer's Reviews)

When I purchased this Straightedge & Fret Gauge tool,...I was not expecting the Quality of Tool it actually is ! My Collin's Micro-Flat, is a 12 inch square of 3.385 inches thick black granite, with a flatness still good to +/- .0001 inches. over the entire square foot surface.

Both gauge edges of the StewMac Straight-Edge were rested on this micro-flat and the observed flatness matches the surface of the Granite Micro-Flat ! ! SO,...for any possible Wood projects this straightedge is well beyond " Dead Flat ! " Too,...it's entire end to end, face to face parallelism / taper, was only .001 inches, over it's 16.500 inch length,..or FAR better than most all of the best Wood related tools !

SO, I'm more than impressed with this Fret Scale Straightedge & it was great to see some real Tool Making, Surface Grinding & Hardening having been used in the manufacturing of this fine Guitar-Neck, Straight-Edge & Fret placement Steel tool as well !

Best Regards to the StewMac guys,...

Great for checking level of frets as well as the fretboard itself

Indispensable, albeit expensive

I have been able to give my guitars and clients great fret jobs. 2.5/64" action at the 12th fret is achievable with it!
