OptiVISOR Headband Magnifier

About This Item

See better to do better work! The OptiVISOR flip-up magnifier frees both hands for inlaying, wiring, fret dressing and other close work.

The OptiVISOR comes with 2X magnification lens with a 10" (25.4cm) focal length — good for medium-close work like pearl cutting, inlaying, engraving and fret-dressing. The lenses are removable so you can switch to the 1.5X lens (#1688, sold separately), which gives you the option of a broader view.

Snap the Quasar LS™ high-intensity lights on the front of your OptiVISOR and really light up your work! High efficiency LEDs (light emitting diodes) surround the lenses to virtually eliminate shadows in hard-to-light areas. The lightweight battery box (with on/off switch) attaches easily to the OptiVISOR frame. Two AA batteries are included.

"However did I manage without it?"
—Stefan Sobell, renowned luthier Northumberland, England

If you've watched our videos, you know ace repairman Dan Erlewine is seldom without his OptiVISOR!

Lenses are optically-ground polished glass. Headband is adjustable and comfortably padded.

Improved my detail work substatiially.

The velcro battery mount is too flimsy, allowing the battery unit to fall off head band, breaking the wires. After an appropriate amount of swearing and foot stamping, I sucked it up bought another and a couple wraps of tape later, securing the ***er on, finished a fine project. Happy enough to buy this 4th one for a fellow repairman. Giving him the same advice. Buy it wrap the battery with tape, shut up and get to work and impress the world with your talents ! !

Have always had trouble getting light to my inlay work. The OptiVisor with the light attachment has solved that problem. Should have bought this several instruments ago.

I didn't get it with lights for it was already pricey but it works good and stays put when it should. I had bought a cheaper brand and threw them in the garbage, so you get what you pay for.

I use these to see finer details when normal eyesight is not enough. My eyesight isn't perfect and I can see the finer stuff that regular viewing cannot. Definitely worth it.

Love the OptiVisor! My wife wanted to know what I wanted for Xmas and I knew I would be getting the Luthier's toolset and getting more heavily into working on my instruments. So I let her have access to my wish list and got this and the benchpad/deadblow rest from my wife. Like they say, happy wife, happy life!

Very useful

Like Dan Erlewine says, I wish I have bought these when I was 20 instead of 40 years old.

My understanding of these is that they keep your eyes focussed at infinity which is far less stressful on the eyes. I can't remember where I read that- probably on an engraving website.

The #4 lens is x 2 magnification at 10"- that is pretty close but good for inlay engraving etc.

How can you work without these????

By

At first, I was skeptical. I have seen cheaper (read: knock-offs) versions of these but the quality of the Donegan are unrivaled. Be aware there are two type os lenses: glass and plastic. Both are fine products with the plastic ones being less expensive , but the plastic ones will scratch.

I would also advise to buy the screw-on loupe (see picture). It swings up or down out of the way when not needed and is spring-tensioned so it will stay where you place it.

Got mine as a birthday gift, and so glad I did! Used during restoration of a 1932 Dobro, and Pre-1900 Farris Banjo. Sooo much easier on my old eyes!
Also have repaired jewelry that I wouldn't have been possible before these were hanging in my shop!
Worth every penny!
