OptiVISOR Headband Magnifier

About This Item

See better to do better work! The OptiVISOR flip-up magnifier frees both hands for inlaying, wiring, fret dressing and other close work.

The OptiVISOR comes with 2X magnification lens with a 10" (25.4cm) focal length — good for medium-close work like pearl cutting, inlaying, engraving and fret-dressing. The lenses are removable so you can switch to the 1.5X lens (#1688, sold separately), which gives you the option of a broader view.

Snap the Quasar LS™ high-intensity lights on the front of your OptiVISOR and really light up your work! High efficiency LEDs (light emitting diodes) surround the lenses to virtually eliminate shadows in hard-to-light areas. The lightweight battery box (with on/off switch) attaches easily to the OptiVISOR frame. Two AA batteries are included.

"However did I manage without it?"
—Stefan Sobell, renowned luthier Northumberland, England

If you've watched our videos, you know ace repairman Dan Erlewine is seldom without his OptiVISOR!

Lenses are optically-ground polished glass. Headband is adjustable and comfortably padded.

A must-have for amp repairs

By

Gone are the days of blisters and collateral component damage from not being able to clearly see where my soldering iron is! I really have no idea how I used to work on amps before I had these.

I also purchased the LED lights which are great - no more shadows.

Can I give it ten stars?!?

Middle age is tough. This makes (some of) it easier. WAY easier. Maybe if I'd have gotten this a couple decades ago, my solder joints and breadboards would've been right the first time?
Okay--probably not. But seeing your work is very...eye opening. And this has excellent optics.

Had one that I bought from Stew Mac about 20 years ago and finally decided to get a new one with the light attachment. It is great. I use it everyday.

Perfect!

I'm rebuilding a Rickenbacker bass with a cracked neck and really bad electronics. I usually use a large magnifying lamp with florescent light but it always gets in the way. This visor is not only comfortable, and the lenses can be lifted easily, but the LED add on is amazing. Very bright and really helps these old eyeballs of mine. Love my new visor. Thanks to Dan for the great demonstration and great videos in general. I have really learned a lot from him.

I use the lighted option for engraving. I find that it helps eliminate some of the undesirable shadows on the work piece

Absolutely Fantastic In All Respects

I make a variety of made to order traditional wooden folk instruments and recently had to undergo eye surgery for a detached retina that was minimally successful. So for the past few months I have been struggling with one eye and my old reading glasses with one lens blacked out over the bad eye building my instruments. A total pain in the neck to say the least. Today I wore my new OptiVISOR for several hours throughout the day with complete and total delight! Once again it was a delight and not a chore to be in the workshop.

I also ordered the #4 lens to compliment the #2 lens that comes with the OptiVISOR. I immediately discovered that for hand carving wood and detail work the #4 lens is absolutely perfect. I also am a hobbyist drone pilot that from time to time have to replace motors which requires soldering some very small wires so today I also gave that a test with the #2 lens that comes with the OptiVISOR. What a difference!!! What usually turns into a frustrating chore was a breeze!

In the past I have tried some cheap Made in China visor style magnifiers that not only had very poor quality lens also had a completely uncomfortable headband/visor design that ended up thrown in the junk box. Not so with the OptiVisor, the headband was completely comfortable all day long. With the visor flipped up it was easy to forget I was wearing it. Also unlike those cheapo visors that when flipped up with slowly creep down and have to me raised up again, the OptiVisor stays in place. It also has a great, easy to adjust head strap adjustment that once set stays in place with no need to readjust at all.

I am an old retired sailor whose greatest joy has for years been spending my days in the workshop. To be honest I was beginning to get sorta frustrated and thinking that perhaps those days were over. Today I know those days are here again. All thanks to my OptiVISOR. I don't mean to sound over dramatic here but I am that pleased. At first I was kind of hesitant due to the price but you get exactly what you pay for and with StewMac's return policy I had nothing to loose by giving it a try. Sure glad I did.

PS: I also tested mounting the two lens together as shown in the video. It easy to do but I like it better with changing them out as needed since 90% of the time I will be using the #4 lens.
