Gorgomyte Fretboard Conditioning Cloth

About This Item

Original lemon oil formula.
Specially treated cloth loosens and removes dirt and oxidation fast, leaving frets shining like jewels and feeling great.

Weird name, but it really gets the job done! Gorgomyte® was developed by veteran guitar tech Jimmy Johnson as a nonabrasive, faster alternative to steel wool. Gorgomyte cleans and conditions fingerboards without leaving a sticky residue. Jimmy's proud to say Gorgomyte is used by more big-name touring bands than any similar product.

"I'm so used to great frets now it's hard to remember life before Gorgomyte!"
—Tommy Shaw of Styx

The 6" x 9" size means Gorgomyte is more economical and fresher when you're ready to use it. A new finer cotton weave helps it clean more efficiently, too.

Gorgomyte is environmentally safe, non-toxic and non-irritating to your skin. It's chemically treated with lemon oil to condition and enhance the beauty of fretboard woods. No need to mask off the frets.

A note from Jimmy Johnson, Gorgomyte creator and veteran guitar tech:

Having the right tool for the right job is what being a good tech is all about. I'm thrilled to be able to have my own product, Gorgomyte, added to the StewMac family of exceptional products.

Since I began selling Gorgomyte in 1995, I've been fortunate to be in close contact with many major touring and recording artists and their techs. Now in 2010, Gorgomyte is used by virtually every big name act out there (Rush, Metallica, Tesla, Styx, Damn Yankees, Todd Rundgren, Peter Frampton, Tom Cochrane, Glass Tiger, Collective Soul, Night Ranger).

I'm excited to be able to expand Gorgomyte's user list to include the top luthier shops that use StewMac to keep their shops equipped with the finest tools of the trade.

Awesome product for us non-guitar tech guru's

I've been playing guitar for over 40 yrs and had always brought my wood to an experienced luthier for any type of set-up or change. I bought the Gorgomyte and it was so easy to use and it completely changed the feel and playability of all my guitars. The fretboard felt so much better than what I got out of the box and so much more enjoyable to play. Awesome product for us non-guitar guru's that can make any guitar neck feel so much smoother and more fun to play!!
I recently purchased a G&L Bluesboy Tribute and needed a minor set-up, I applied the Gorgomyte to the fretboard, lowered the action and it felt very similar to my Gibson ES-335 Dot Figured, I recommend this to anyone who is unaware that you can change the overall feel of the guitar with a simple and inexpensive product.

excellent fretboard care

leaves everything looking its best. I used to use lemon oil and a rag but that never really cleaned the frets. This product does both. My only beef is the amount that is in the package. There ought to be a large size that is priced accordingly

Why tape off your fretboard, shine up your frets, take off the tape, clean finger oil and gunk off, and then oil the whole thing when you can just use a 2 inch square of this and do all of that in a few minutes? It's really a no brainer, and it doesn't make your fretboard smell too bad.

This stuff works.

Severely tarnished frets might need a little TLC with some of the Stew-Mac abrasive erasers, but I plan to use this as part of my regular maintenance routine when I change strings.

Glad I did. Purchased a used guitar recently and it seems some folks just have a hard time keeping their instrument clean. The fingerboard was a visibly dirty and the frets could use a bit of a buff. I normally use rubbing alcohol or Naphtha to remove fingerboard gunk. Then I would use either a light steel wool or fret erasers. Either way, I'm having to tape off pickups any have more steps. Not with Gorgomyte. So easy, fast and it really works. Yep, it's a winner.

After coming across this product and it's claims I decided to give it a try. Totally blew me away at how good it worked and how fast. I can't see myself going to another product after Gorgmyte leaving my fretboard looking like it just came out of the box.
