Precision Router Base

About This Item

A more stable way to support your Dremel. Our sturdy, compact base is the best way to hold a Dremel for freehand routing, inlaying, widening fret slots and more.

Made of machined steel, brass and aluminum, it features precision cutting depth adjustment with large thumbwheels to eliminate guesswork.
Designed especially for stringed instrument work.
  • Excellent control
  • Easy installation
  • Accurate freehand routing
Sturdy, compact, and adjustable.
Each turn of the large knurled thumbwheels adjusts your Dremel's cutting depth by .035" (.889mm). You can rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for less sanding later.

Tall twin handles give you excellent control for freehand routing, and you get a good view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a mini air pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

And here's a tip from Dan Erlewine: clamp the Dremel and router base upside-down on your workbench, and use the bottom of the router base as a mini drum sander, as Dan Erlewine did for a Gibson L-1 archtop bridge in this issue of our Trade Secrets Newsletter.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

This router base is the perfect match for foredom handpices

I am set up with a foredom system this is a perfect addition to my system. Im sure you would get the same results with the dremel tool. You can see what you are doing, not like some others. The air pump is a must it clears the dust away from the cut. If you are on the fence this is the one to buy.

As good as the user

I used this tool to cut precise depths. I have another base that I use with an air powered die grinder and its a good one. The problem with the grinder vibrates and loosens, thereby, changing the depth of my cut. This one does not. The only issue I have is a dermal must be screwed directly to the base and blocks some of the light. My next tool will be the foredom. ..

Beats the "Plastic Fantastic" Ones Hands Down

Very nicely made and sturdy. Once the thumb screws are tightened the Dremel is very stable. The cross piece remains parallel to the base when the screws are tightened according to the instructions. The price is very reasonable.

Well made, but

This Dremel router base is very well made. However I find it's a little more complicated to use than I expected. Turning all the screws and knurled knobs in the right direction is tricky. I'm sure with time I will figure it out.

I bought this one for doing my first advanced inlays. I've just started, but it seems to be perfect for the job.

. So far, no complaints. I've done about 6 practice runs on inlay, and I'm getting better with every try.

Outstanding Router Base

By

Verified Buyer

This is by far the greatest precision router base I've ever used, and I have used several. It provides great visibility, precise depth, and exact cuts. It's all metal and heavy duty. I've used it to inlay lots of polished stones and incise lots of names into countless cribbage boards and family trees. It's a go-to, supremely reliable tool.

Takes a little time

Well made, no plastic, and works well for other than luthier work. Takes a little time getting use to the height adjusters, but then you fly thru wood. Simple but good instruction for installation and use. Good value for the money.
