Precision Router Base

About This Item

A more stable way to support your Dremel. Our sturdy, compact base is the best way to hold a Dremel for freehand routing, inlaying, widening fret slots and more.

Made of machined steel, brass and aluminum, it features precision cutting depth adjustment with large thumbwheels to eliminate guesswork.

Designed especially for stringed instrument work.
  • Excellent control
  • Easy installation
  • Accurate freehand routing
Sturdy, compact, and adjustable
Each turn of the large knurled thumbwheels adjusts your Dremel's cutting depth by .035" (.889mm). You can rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for less sanding later.

Tall twin handles give you excellent control for freehand routing, and you get a good view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a mini air pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

And here's a tip from Dan Erlewine: clamp the Dremel and router base upside-down on your workbench, and use the bottom of the router base as a mini drum sander, as Dan Erlewine did for a Gibson L-1 archtop bridge in this issue of our Trade Secrets Newsletter.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

Make your Dremel a more versatile guitar shop tool.

A must have for repair OR building

I have used this router base for jobs I never would have thought. It's sturdy, easy to adjust, and will stay stable as your dremel vibrates. An investment I would make 10 times over.

Router base

I use this base along with a gig I made to deepen the slot in the guitar bridge when I'm adding an electronic pick-up. It works great. The only issue is, some are deeper in the middle than on each end. So be careful. You don't want to create string buzzing.

With the Foredom motor flex tool and hand piece this affordable, light-weight tool is indispensable for precision inlays.

Great workmanship

I bought this for an inlay project and found it to be as precise as I thought it would be. I am particularly happy about the ability to attach an air hose to keep the work field free of debris.

Really great

I bought this for myself to to inlay boxes, fingerboards etc. Inlaying with chisels or using a Dremel type tool freehand is time consuming and difficult to achieve a uniform depth for abalone inlay.
The router base worked so well I bought one for my son in law who also does woodworking.

A really nice well made tool.

I have been thinking about buying one of these for years. When it finally came last night, I was really surprised by the build quality. This router base is so much better built than any other for Dremel tools that I have ever seen. I can't wait to try it out. I'd recommend it based on build quality alone. It is a beautiful little tool.

Great product

This is a wonderful product it is professionally built with top quality products it is study, precise and the adjustments on this are great. However the reason for the four stars. I do not plan on using this product for guitars I use it for routing fine woodworking with my scroll saw shop. The base plate on this is aluminum I'm assuming, meaning it is not see through. That is my only flaw with this. I cannot see the lines except for the tiny area of the V groove. I have already replaced the base late with a thick acrylic and it works just fine. I wish they would offer this to buy separately because my modification helped out tremendously. But I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.
