Fret Press Inserts

About This Item

These 2-1/2"-wide grooved brass caul inserts fit our fret pressing tools and are designed for working with radiused or flat fretboards.

The milled groove on the bottom keeps each caul properly centered on the fret.

#4367 insert with 6"-radius holds down the fret ends for gluing — especially important on the tight 7-1/4" radius found on many Fenders.

Fret Press Inserts are designed to fit all of StewMac's fret pressing tools.

Perfection

This insert seated my frets perfectly. Very little leveling required.

excelletn tool.

I've found the fret press inserts, used in conjunction with my drill press (being used as a 'lite' press) does an excellent job inserting fret wire in my builds. I'm currently doing a 1937 Martin D28 replica build and needed the 16 radius insert to that end. No complaints.

Should add the flat insert

By

I make ukuleles so I needed the flat insert. When I ordered the press and accessories I assumed one of the five inserts would work for ukuleles. I was wrong and had to order the flat with added shipping costs. I would suggest that the flat should be included with the five other inserts that come with the press as others I've talked to had the same happen.

These fret press inserts have made it possible for me to make my own fret press jaws here in my shop; and the service from Stew-Mac is always outstanding!

Very Handy

I've been performing fretwork for nearly 30 years, and no method of fret-insertion has been as successful for me as using the Jaws (4381) system with these fret-press inserts. These in combine with Jaws, the Jaws-2 (4266), the Fret Arbor Press System (4481) or the Fret Press Caul (4365) in a drill press is easily hands-down the most secure way to seat a fret in a slot. I also use the Stew Mac Fret-Bender (0350) in conjunction with the Radius Gauges (5432) first, then the Fretting Hammer (4895) to tap in the fret-ends. The Jaws and these Inserts have never failed me. I've yet to have a fret-end lift or have a fret unseat itself using this process.

I hammer my frets but I still use these for the final seating of the fret to match the radius of the fretboard. They work great.
