Guitar Repair Vise

About This Item

The luthier's favorite vise is even easier to use, thanks to custom modifications: bearing-smooth operation, fast crank handwheel, and urethane/hardwood swivel jaws.

Custom modifications make it the best!
Don't mistake our vise for one of the many copycats! We've customized our Guitar Repair Vise to give it bearing-smooth operation that you won't find elsewhere. Turn the fast-crank handwheel and you'll immediately feel the difference.

Customized four ways:
1. Fast-crank handwheel with removable handle
2. Roller bearings for fast smooth opening/closing
3. Protective urethane surfaces on custom hardwood jaws
4. Nylon-core adjustable tension nuts control 360° jaw rotation

A good vise is the central hub of your workshop. Every repair or building job benefits from a solid, secure vise, and if it's actually a pleasure to use that's all the better!

Our Guitar Repair Vise is 32 pounds of steel that rotates full-circle to position the work for comfortable access. Each inch-thick hardwood jaw rotates too, with forgiving urethane surfaces to hold instruments of any shape/any size. This vise holds the tapered angles of a neck securely without needing any shims. Nylon-core adjustment nuts set the tension on the rotating jaws, so you can let them spin loosely or hold their angle. The vise jaws open to a maximum of 6" (15.24cm).

We've built in a roller bearing so the vise opens and adjusts smoothly - and added a crank handle to make it speedy. (The handle's conveniently removable, too.)

The sturdy base can be installed under your workbench for 8" vise height, or on top for 9-3/4" height. The threaded mounting rod and large wingnut mount the vise quickly on any benchtop up to 4-1/2" thick. Use a 11/16" bit to make a clean hole through your bench.

Gets The job Done but Without Class

I've had my vise for about 3 years. It is both handy and sometimes a pain in the a**. My primary problem with it is its lack of smooth operation. Whether you are racking open or closed, it chatters and the speed handle that Dan so deftly demonstrates - Ha! Big joke! Worthless addition to the operating wheel. I've cleaned and lubricated this thing time and again to no avail. It is what it is.

I just got better at building guitars

Best tool purchase I've made in a long time. I have never had so much control over my workpiece before. I can get the perfect angle at the perfect height with a rock solid hold on bodies, necks, whatever I am clamping. This vise is as important as the day I learned how to properly sharpen my chisels. This vise will allow me to be better at building guitars.

I am very satisfied with my new vise and I found new ways of working, soft and strong grip at the same time, versatile, useful for tapered pieces.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do, Smooth, strong and well built. Should have bought one years ago. Too bad it could not be built in the USA.

Works great

I like this vise a lot -- it's well made (in china) with smooth action and solid feel.
It holds the instrument firmly. I was somewhat skeptical, but after using it a few times, I'm starting to trust it.
It's nice that it holds the instrument up off the bench, which helps avoid accidental damage due to screws and tools left on the bench.

LOVE IT!!

For years I had almost pulled the trigger on buying this vice, mainly because of the price. I fiinalky got it and after 1 week of using this, all I could think was "why did I not buy this sooner?!!"

This vice has become probably my most favorite tool in my shop. It is so stinkin' useful! I use it for everything and I can't imagine not having it now. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Yes it's pricey for a big heavy hunk of metal, but it's worth every penny as far as how much easier it makes doing guitar work. Thank you StewMac!!

How did I live without this?

By

15 years I built and repaired guitars without one of these. What a moron I was. This is worth EVERY PENNY and more. I got it with the stand and with the body board. I figured I could probably make a body board myself, but I'd rather get paid to fix guitars than spend time hacking around with plywood and lag bolts. Positively one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Guitar bench vise

Pretty useful tool. But it doesn't have the grabbing power of a genuine vise, which is good because it won't ding up wood yet serves a good purpose for neck elwork and the like. It's way overbuilt, which is also nice. If you do a lot of guitar or uke work this will make it easier!
