ColorTone Buffing Compounds

About This Item

Professional high gloss polishing
ColorTone Buffing Compounds remove fine scratches from finish topcoats, metal, and plastic surfaces.

Designed specifically for musical instruments
These new formulas will give your instruments a professional shine for a showroom grade high gloss finish.

Used with the StewMac Guitar Buffer, they're ideal for polishing pickguards, bone nuts, wooden bridges, frets and other metal parts too.

ColorTone Buffing Compounds remove more scratches than automotive compounds (the industry standard), and were specifically designed and tested to achieve the stunning mirror finishes found on high-end guitars, mandolins, and other musical instruments.

Great value, less waste
24-ounce buffing bars are smaller than most, but still plenty of compound for years of use in both factories and small shops.

Important: use separate buffing wheels for each grade of compound.

BRING BACK MENZERNA COMPOUND!

By

Stewmac used to sell a certain German name brand compounds which are absolutely the best in the world for lacquer finishes. This so-called "ColorTone" compound is little more than bottom of the barrel Chinese garbage. It's mostly air, for one thing; stick one of these things up to your buffing wheel and watch it disappear like a carrot into a wood chipper. I've used almost half a stick already buffing out 4 or 5 guitars, the M brand compound used to last me months. It's messy, I think I got more of it on the floor of my shop than I did on the wheel. Oh, and it cuts like crap. Do yourself a favor and just light your money on fire because that's what buying this buffing compound is like, otherwise do some searching and get something better.

I think I like this better than the other stuff

We used op all the old compound and ordered this. It seems like the medium cuts better than the old stuff so... less wet sanding.
The fine polishes our clear coat like glass. Can't really ask for much more than that.
Works well on lacquer finishes but we hardly ever use lacquer anymore.

Terrible.

Stewmac use to sell a compound that is great. Color Tone Compound sucks. The Color Tone compound smears and falls apart, leaves the clay color behind. Its just total mess. I threw it out.

I have a range of buffing compounds at home that I use so i was very apprehensive about shelling out for these. I could not be happier. These do an amazing cut and buff up to a mirror finish worthy of any showroom. I would highly recommend heating your wheel first using a bit of scrap wood before applying the compound as it seems to take to the wheel better if you do.
A little goes a LONG way. Great VFM and another fantastic product provided by stewmac. I've always been a fan of colortone products anyway - but this is just another notch in the bedpost :)

ColorTone Buffing Compounds are the best!

By

Verified Buyer

Aloha,

We have been obtaining all our polishing and buffing materials from
Stew Mac for over twenty years now, and are about to purchase from a
whole new setup as we increase our production capacity. Lately, we
had noticed that some of the compounds we use weren't performing as
well as they had in the past, and we contacted both Stew Mac and the
German manufacturer about it. The maker was no help (partly because
of the language barrier,) but Stew Mac informed us that they were
introducing the new Colortone buffing compounds, so we ordered some.

We are very happy to say that the Colortone products work as well as,
or better than, anything we have used previously, and we are very
happy about this. Please keep up the good work, and we will continue
to be faithful customers. You guys rock! Stew Mac is constantly coming
out with stuff that makes our work go more easily and smoothly.

Mahalo Nui Loa, as we say here in Hawaii!

Sincerely,
Michael Rock, Luthier

These compounds take to a buffing wheel more easily than any I've used in the past. I'm getting great gloss finishes in less time, and I love the smaller bars.
