Foam Polishing Pads

About This Item

High gloss finishes with your hand drill!
Shaped pads are great for guitar body contours. No swirl marks!

Your finishes can have a professional look when you use these fiber-free foam buffing pads. They're perfect for applying polishing compounds with your power buffer or variable-speed hand drill.

Foam polishing pads are perfect for applying polishing compounds, like our ColorTone Polishing Compounds. The gentle polishing action helps avoid swirl marks, fine scratches and burn-through, leaving a beautiful mirror-gloss surface.

For the small shop or casual builder, this is a great way to get factory-quality finishes without tedious hand polishing or expensive buffing equipment. Larger well-equipped shops find foam pads handy for getting into tight areas for fast spot refinishing, too. Each pad has a 1/4" arbor—you can use it in a drill press or variable-speed hand drill.

"Hourglass and cone-shaped pads are great for getting into guitar cutaways and hard-to-reach contours. I find a use for them all!"
—Erick Coleman, guitar repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Important: A separate pad should be used for each grade of polishing compound, to avoid adding scratches to the finish. Apply the compounds in sequence, from coarse to fine grades.

Colors may vary.

Loved these

These exceeded my expectations. I achieved a higher gloss than I ever have achieved through hand buffing. I am sold on power buffing! I may graduate up to a pedestal buffer at some point but for now these work great!

Excellent Buffers

I recently purchased these foam pads and used them with my B&W battery-powered drill. The results were excellent. Rather than use StewMac's guitar polishes, I went with Maguire's 205 polish, and the results were astounding.

Easy to use with great results.

Worked great for polishing a flat tele body. Could have used some cones for the sides though.

Time saver and helps remove smal flaws

I've used these foam polishing pads ever since Stew/Mac listed them I guess. I get the same factory look on my guitars as the BIG BOYS!! This pad removes small light scratches and with a coarser polishing compound, it even removes some of the heavier, deeper scratches. Don't get me wrong!!, you have to have a good spray job and you have to wet sand the finish good!! Removing 90%-95% of your scratches is essential to getting that 100% beautiful scratch free finish. I start with 400 grit, then 800 grit to 1000 grit and finally 2000 grit of wet sanding paper which I get at the local auto body supply house. Some people say I don't need to use 2000, but the more time and patience you take, helps you end up with a better looking instrument. I've been doing this over 12 years. I do repair work and build new guitars for many locals. My repair work includes instruments for SPIGMA and IBMA award winners in the Bluegrass categories, if you don't know what the initials mean. I learn what these World class musicians prefer and it helps me when building new guitars. Over 90% of my precision tools came from Stew/Mac. These people not only have some of if not the best tools and equipment available, but they have Tech's on hand to answer your questions. If you don't get a hold of them when you call, leave your number and they usually call you back within an hour. I appreciate their courtesy and knowledge. These pads save me from having to buy the more expensive Buffing equipment, which also takes more room which I don't have. If used right, these pads leave a finish equal to the buffing machines. Just my opinion!A USA Strat I redone and a Cocobola I built.

Handy because of size

Great size to keep on hand. The smaller size takes less polish compound, and good for small work pieces. Easy to work with.

I've recently started building and repairing guitars. These pads have really improved my finishes. I wish I would have gotten them 5 guitars ago!

Different material than photo

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The foam material in the photo is yellow. The product I received is gray, and seems to be cosiderbly less dense. I'm not crazy about it.

Response from StewMac

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us. While color of the foam may be different, rest assured the density will work properly with polishing compounds to get a high gloss finish. Regardless, if you are not satisfied you may return it for a refund or exchange. Please call us at 1-800-848-2273.

Disintegrated rather quickly, difficult to clean. Marginally effective. Will not purchase another.

A bargain

Like most items from Stew-Mac, the price seems to be a tad high, until you open the package and realize what a bargain it is. Great quality.
