Jack The Gripper

About This Item

Ingenious! Holds the jack steady so you can tighten/loosen the nut without disassembling your instrument or amp.

A loose nut on a 1/4" jack is trouble. It's no fun to watch the jack disappear into your guitar or amp as the nut falls off, or to break a solder connection when you tighten the nut and the jack turns with it.

Designed by veteran repairman Frank Ford, Jack The Gripper is a smart tool that can save you a lot of time and work. Insert it into the jack, and the knurled cam locks in either direction, to hold the jack firmly while you tighten or loosen the nut.

Recessed jack? No problem—the tool also includes a clever adapter for use with your 3/8" square drive socket.

Instructions included.

2nd best time saving tool I own

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I love this thing. Well worth the price. I use mine at home enough that I'm trying to talk my boss at the shop where I work to get one for the techs there as well. I'd go far enough as to say this tool saves me more time than any other tool except my cordless drill. It's a very well thought through and executed product

Jack The Gripper Tool...

I had only purchased this tool a couple weeks ago at this point (it is now 1/5/17) and it works great. I fixed a couple of my guitars with it. A must have for your toolbox.

Great time saver!

Nothing more annoying than a loose nut on my guitar output jack but this handy tool tightens it up without turning the jack itself AND I can really crank down on that nut. A little pricey but I like Frank Ford, StewMac and high quality tools so I'm okay with it.

I don't really understand HOW this tool works, but in 20 seconds I had secured the jacks on both archtops! Very effective!

If there's such thing as a perfect tool - this is it! Does exactly what it's supposed to do and is impossibly quick and easy to use. Makes a frustrating job quick and satisfying - love it!

Excellent solution

By

I first saw this years ago on the machining pages of Frank Ford's website where he illustrates every step of the process he used to invent and make these. I thought it was clever and also fascinating to see Frank's photo-essay of their construction.

After recently deciding to replace the wiring in an Ibanez hollowbody (no access to the rear of the jack for tightening) I checked out StewMac for solutions and was delighted to see that they're offering Frank's gadget.

Jack the Gripper did not disappoint. It's easy to use, well thought-out and makes tightening 1/4" jacks literally fun to do. Excellent tool and at a great price.

TIME SAVER....!!!

I'm sorry I didn't get this ages ago. HUGE time and hassle saver. I thought it was a bit pricey but it gives great value. The tool that just keeps giving. If you make a living as a guitar tech or luthier this is an ABSOLUTE must.

Brilliant solution!

It seems a little pricey for something so simple that might not use often (at the moment). Though, it's a brilliant tool compared to the solutions I've come up with in the past. It's well worth the cost to save fighting the frustration caused by an angst-ridden jack that won't stay put, wants to twist up or break your wiring.

It took me a couple of tries to get comfortable with how it works--insert, turn. After that I was unstoppable! I tightened every jack in the workshop, then the house, rehearsal studio... I even put an ad up on CL: "Jacks tightened free with every modestly priced snow cone!"

On a side note I'm actually torn on naming products after serial killers, but I probably do plenty of other insensitive things. I'm also bad about naming things anyway. Just ask my cat, Mr. Spriggs. She loves that name...
