I was doing some interim fix-up on an old Gibsion LG-0 and had to return the one I ordered from Stewmac and order elsewhere for a 2 1/16 spacing required. Did a nice job and to my ear improved the sound.

I use a lot of these

I have had a number of old parlor guitars w/ chewed up plates. I have started putting in the Plate Mate, even when I replace the plate to keep it from getting chewed up. Tonally, I don't hear much difference, maybe a little more treble, but it really does fix the problem and prevent it from re-occurring. I have contemplated making them myself, but I decided as a thank you to Mitchell for coming up with such a great easy to use solution I'll just continue to buy them, he deserves it for being so darn clever.

3 platemates, 3 guitars, 3 different results ALL GOOD

I got my plate mates that I ordered the other day. Shipped in the time they said it would take and the order was correct. I had 2 guitars with a 2 and 3/16th spacing (Yamaha FD 20 and a Zager ZAD80 CE) and an Ibanez SG220E with a 2 and 1/8th spacing. I did the Yamaha 1st 'cuz I had a hard time believing it wasn't the "standard" 2 1/8th and I wanted to be sure I measured correctly. Silly me, of course I did. It was a little harder to install than I thought it might be because the "self adhesive" sure could stand to adhere a lot better. I had to hold the plates in place while I strung up the 2 E strings then it was held in place just fine. This was true for all 3 guitars. Once installed I noticed a fair to goodly amount of added brightness to the Yamaha and a great deal of added brightness to the Zager and a minor to fair amount of added brightness to the Ibanez. To be fair in comparison, I also changed the strings on the Yamaha and kept what I had on the other 2 as they were fairly new strings. Now that the strings are tight the adhesive might get set better after a few weeks or months 'til I change strings and it'll stay in place. If that is the only problem then I can live with that. But the main reason I bought these were to protect the underside of the bridge in the guitar and I can see where these will do an excellent job of keeping the wood from getting chewed up with age. I don't change my strings a lot 'cuz old strings stay in tune better even if the brightness is diminished but I still worried about the wood getting chewed up and worn. Glad I got 'em and I'd advise anyone with an acoustic who wants to keep it in tip top shape and add a bit of brightness to get one for each of your guitars.
As far as StewMac goes, this is my 1st order with them. My credit card was billed correctly, the items arrived on time and in perfect condition and the order was 100% correct so I cannot in any way shape or form complain about anything!!

This was affordable and a breeze to install. It has saved my 1989 Guild GF30. It really makes it sing and now I don't have to install a new bridge plate.

Improved Sound Quality From an Acoustic Guitar due to PlateMate.

Being a new guitar addict, I bought an inexpensive, used, low-line, but in excellent condition guitar to learn on. Just to give an idea of the low quality of this brand, the action was about 3/8 inch. I quickly replaced and lowered the saddle after remounting the poorly glued bridge. Also replaced the plastic bridge pins with ebony pins. Those mods fixed intonation issues and made it much easier to play. The volume was fuller and louder as well. However, I also noticed while performing that work that the bridge base plate was splintered. It looked like the bridge pin holes were drilled with a dull drill bit and the drill bit forced through the wood. It was splintered all the way across all 6 anchor pin holes. I installed a PlateMate. It needed two corners diagonally cut due to proximity of the internal X brace but other than that installed easily. I have to say the fullness and volume of each note is even more so with the PlateMate installed. And, while this is a cheap guitar, I will keep it for many years knowing that the bridge baseplate will now last. I couldn't say if a PlateMate would enhance the sound quality of a higher quality guitar but it is easy to remove so why not try it?

Emergency Quickfix on a Bridgeplate

By

Had 1 pin hole in bridge plate that had tore out. This platemate saved me and my customer lots of time (for me) and money (for customer). I explained this would work until which time they wanted to have the bridge plate changed out. Very, very little sound difference if any, so they might play on and forget the plate change for some time. A great life saver when you have to have it today.

Easy to install

Very easy to install. Just follow the instructions. I didn't notice a great difference in the tone, maybe a small improvement and definitely not detrimental but the tuning stability did improve. I don't know why acoustics don't come with these already fitted. Better than chewing out the bridge plate and costing lots of dollars down the track.

Plate Mate

Love it! Dead simple to fix on... just got to stick the plate via the soundhole to get to the underneath of the bridge with the high & low E bridge pin inserted as a guide. Now the D28's volume & spectrum is slightly boosted and enhanced. Order the plate in accordance to your string spacing and there you go...
