StewMac Plunge Router Base

About This Item

Our sturdy base turns your Dremel into a compact plunge router—perfect for inlays, routing saddle slots, cleaning fret slots and more. The advanced design gives an unobstructed view of the cutting action.

It's very simple to set the precision depth adjustment, then plunge and raise the bit exactly that amount. Each turn of the knurled micro depth stop gives approximately 1/32" of adjustment, to a maximum depth of one inch.

    Designed for stringed instrument work
  • Excellent control
  • Clear visibility
  • Maneuverable for accurate freehand work
  • Works with our Saddle Slotting Jig

Sturdy, compact, and adjustable
You can plunge-rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for minimum sanding later.

The ball grips give you excellent control for freehand routing and easy operation of the plunge feature. The built in LED light bar gives you a fully lighted view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a Mini Air Pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

Handy base to have

Nice base, quality build. Two things I was not a fan of, the threaded handles are kinda weird to use and they like to spin with the vibration of the dremel tool if you don't have your hand on it. Plunge into your work and find out the handle spun, now you have to thread your handle further to lock it into place.
Second: Not the greatest place for a light...having to look under the light to see what you are doing. First thing I noticed as soon as I pulled it out of the box, well thats a dumb place to put the light! I drilled and tapped the other side for the light, works great now!
At the end of the day its a pretty handy base to have in the shop.

I hesitated buying this base because of the price and I have the old Stewmac base. Am I glad I bought this tool. It is solid, flat, easy to adjust and with the I can do just about perfect inlays. I plan to use it for many other uses. It is worth more than the price since the accuracy and time I save fixing mistakes. I highly recommend this tool.

With a good pair of magnifying glasses you can do very detailed inlay work. Quality of this base is top notch!

Very pleased, a significant step above the previous design.

The new system for setting the depth of cut is much easier to use than the previous model and more importantly, it doesn't vibrate out of adjustment while in use. But the best part is the light. You can SEE where you are cutting! Yes, you do have to look around the lamp and it would be nice if the lamp could be split into two sections so that it came in from both sides leaving the frontal view clear. But that would probably require a custom light rather than a repurposed bicycle headlight and a considerable increase in cost.

Made my life easier.  Great tool!

I have the original precision base. While built well, I always had trouble adjusting it. It would end up crooked, one side lower than the other. It was easier to leave it at a set height and adjust the router bit up and down in the collet. Bought the plunge router hoping it would adjust better. It does! The light is also very handy. I use it to freehand cut the binding ledge on the scroll of F5 mandolins. Being able to adjust it quickly and have the depth stop has changed how I work.

This thing rocks! I just used it to remove a replacement bridge hat had been epoxied in place.

This allowed me to dial in the perfect depth for passes to remove the bridge, assisted by the Stew Mac Saddle Cutting Jig.
