Three-in-one Fret File

About This Item

Designed by master luthier Michael Gurian.

When we're asked to recommend just one fret file, it's gotta be the 3-in-1. It's been popular since Michael Gurian designed it over 20 years ago. The angle in the shaft lifts the handle up away from the guitar, protecting the top. Since it has 3 interchangeable cutters it works for all fret widths, from basses to mandolins.

Steel shank, wooden handle. Overall length is 7" (178mm).
Each burr is 1-7/8" (47.63mm) long.

Replacement burrs sold separately.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Works great!

Just got this, used it on a bass that I just built. Not only made it easy to deal with the problem fret with the strings still on, but used it to round the edges off a bit too.

I’m new to working on guitars, and this was perfect for a kit I’m building. Perfectly crowned frets after I used it.

I bought another piece because I have used my first one a lot! More then a comfortable tool, you have an essential resource to leave the frets new again! Great job!

Used this type of fret file for years

The upside to this file is that is is very comfortable to hold and does the job well. I got mine before diamond files were available and it's still going strong..

The down side is that the teeth chatter a lot and it only cuts in one direction (both common problems for any file). It amazes me that after all these years stewmac still doesn't offer replacement burs in diamond.

I have tried to crown my frets with this.. But i must be doing somthing wrong... Hard to see where you have filed even with a marker.. It takes away the marker on first drag.. Bought my self a normal file.. Gues thats easyer to controll
