Precision-ground for flatness.
Fast, accurate leveling tools for the pro shop.

Each heavyweight steel tube is precision-ground for flatness on the narrow sides. Attach abrasive to quickly level frets or unfretted fingerboards.

Each heavyweight rectangular 1" x 2" steel tube is precision-ground for flatness on two opposite sides. The tool's edges are smooth to prevent gouging.

Available in three lengths, to level any fingerboard.

Roger Sadowsky, ace builder and repairman, wrote us to say:
"I have been leveling fingerboards and frets for 30 years and thought I was pretty set in my ways. However, I have recently tried the 16" steel levelers (#4578) and man, talk about teaching an old dog new tricks! My fingerboards have never been better, and they work much better than files for leveling frets. Thank you again, StewMac!!!"

Cut and stick!
3M Stikit Gold Paper Self-adhesive Abrasives are the right width for our leveling and radius sanding tools. Attach 80 through 220-grits for radiusing and leveling the fingerboard, and 220 through 400-grits for leveling the frets.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Many uses for this tool

I come from an old school background where we made all our own tools. This job was done with various length files. The beam does the job quickly and effortlessly.

I had to plug a hacked recessed tremolo route to convert back to its original Fender style bridge. I played up on the factory seams to hide the repair, but the area was very large. I used the 16" beam with various papers applied to the sides of the bar to level the patch. It came out perfect. Way flatter than the old way of doing it with sanding blocks.

I have found all sort of uses for this bar. I wouldn't even know where to begin with the alternate uses I have found. Grab one and don't be afraid to experiment. This one can take it!

I have the 16" leveler and use it often for fret board, inlay and fret leveling, beveling and have found other non-guitar uses in my shop. Good weight and feel. Think I might need the 24" as I move to bass building.

Excellent Product!

If you need to level frets, this is your tool. If you could get only one the 16" would be my choice.

fret leveler

wish i bought this awhile ago too, works good, a lot faster than the blocks or the 6" diamond levelers because i can do most of the frets at the same time, so less chance of getting error. now they need to do one of these with the diamond coatings, the paper likes to tear off on the ends, and once that happens, need to replace the whole piece, a tad wasteful.

I have a 16" beam for guitars and an 8" for fall away and short scale instruments. Works well the 3M self adhesive paper 320 grit for leveling. They're heavy, so just let the tool's weight do the work.

This is great for hand-sanding a compound radius. There is ample room for a comfortable grip, and the significant heft makes sanding easier compared to a lighter implement. Great tool!
