Speeds Up The Process

By Gordon Bellerose from Edmonton AB. Canada

Got my Saddle-Matic a few days ago and used it right away. I had to replace the entire bridge on an old acoustic that belonged to a customers' Dad. When the Dad gave it to his son, he said it may never be playable again. With a new bridge, nut, and a set good up this old acoustic will be playable soon.

This is a great tool to get a fast reference point on the location of the saddle and hence the bridge. I use this as my first measurement and mark accordingly and then check before gluing up.

Pretty good

Mine showed up with three set screws, one of which didn't fit any of the holes, but this didn't end up being a problem because I switched out the set screws that hold the little prongs for 1 inch machine screws (8/32). I used one of the two remaining (correctly sized) set screws to hold the rod in place. The machine screws are easier to adjust with my fingers anyway.

I just wanted to mention that another reviewer said something about using the tool "correctly" and then describes butting the tool against the fret, rather then sitting it on top of the fret (as per directions). I compared the two (butted against vs. sitting on top), and ended up with different measurements (butted being shorter distance). I believe butting the tool against the fret results in subtracting 1/2 the width of the fret. Of course, you could add this back in to your measurements, but what makes this tool handy, in my opinion, is that it is a direct reference, rather than a calculation/measurement. I happened to use this tool today on fretwire than is .100 (3/32) wide, and it worked fine, but it looks like wire smaller than this might allow the tool to be sloppy. The small block that sits on the fret has a "V" shaped slot on bottom, and you rest this "V" on the fret, and the wire needs to be either taller or wider than the "V".

Takes guess work out of banjo bridge location!

By Chris Cooper from Commerce, Mich.
(Customer's Reviews) Wednesday, May 02, 2012

I have 4 banjos, a tenor, a long neck plectrum, an open back 5-string and a traditional 5-string each has a different neck scale length. Positioning the bridge is always an issue, I now use the Saddlematic and have taken the guess work out of the process! Great product!
