Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

re-fretted three guitars (Gibson es 137, Yamaha acoustic, and a fender tel) after leveling I used the three in-one fret file to crown the frets.

Great tool for first (or second) time working on frets

By Matthew Guski from Chicago

My first fret job, I tried a great three side file to re-crown after leveling as that is what I read most pros use. But it took me many hours and my crowns were not perfectly consistent; further, by the time I was finally done, they were not even quite level anymore.
I got this for my second fret job and it worked great. All my frets were perfectly level consistent and had a very nice crown.
I finished them off with the fret erasers and couldnÆt be happier.

I love this tool. Interchangeable cutters and offset handle let you work anywhere. I'd give them 5 stars if the cutters were diamond coated. Perhaps a new option?

Nice litle tool, not expencive but very accurate and efficient. Easy to use, easy to changing blade and more the tool is very stable, no risk of sliping on the fret board.

Crowning File

I can't say I'm 100% pleased with this one but it did the job after all... Even if it took 3 hours to recrown the freshly leveled frets of my custom built strat... My initial impression was that all it did was parallel scratches that ruined the fret's finish but it proved to be removing material from the right points! After polishing and finishing i got a rather professional result... But it took a lot of time and effort. I don't know if getting one of the other stewmac crowning files would have made it easier for me but since i have 2 j-basses to level and crown, I believe I made the right choice!

Work but gets some chatter marks but the inserts are kinda funky sized for frets the large insert would work for bass fret i am sure and the other 2 are more guitar fret size.. Still somewhat in between the standard fret sizes..
