3M Gold Fre-Cut Sandpaper

Our favorite papers for dry sanding. They last longer! The premium aluminum oxide abrasive cuts fast and resists clogging, for better efficiency.

Treated to help prevent "fisheyes" (cratering) in waterbase finishes. These papers last longer—we use them in our own shops.

Sold individually in 9" x 11" (23cm x 28cm) sheets.

These papers are graded on the "P-scale," indicating a truly uniform cutting surface (read about abrasive grading scales in our Finishing Step-by-Step book).

Here's how we use these abrasives in our own instrument shops:
"After spraying the build coats on my guitar finishes, I sand with 320 grit Fre-Cut, then spray and sand again. Then I move on to 400, 600, and 800 grit. Don't skip grits! Using all the grits makes the work easier for each sheet, and they last a lot longer."
Todd Sams, StewMac Production Manager and builder of Sams guitars

Trade Secrets!

Fixing a small chip in your guitar's finish

This issue of Trade Secrets is a video: Dan Erlewine demos three of his favorite finish repair tips: 1. Super glue drop fills. 2. Frank Ford's razor blade trick. 3. Strip-sanding with fingertip pressure.

150 Grit staining problem

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The last batch of 150 grit I received leaves a decidedly ugly and unpleasant yellow stain on whatever you are sanding- it can be troublesome to remove from spruce ( causing me to scape off a top finish to correct.) I know this is not StewMac's fault but the supplier appears to be having some QC issues. All the other grits are great ( I use them extensively) and I have never had a similar problem with any of them.

It's the best sandpaper, definetely. I order it from overseas and it's the only one I use

The 3M Gold will cut/remove more, outlast, and save you time and money over any other. Don't waste your money on any other sandpaper, believe me, I have learned the hard way. Dale Latimer, Pickup/Amp Builder
