Cool Windings

By Neil Turner from Sassenheim, The Netherlands
(Customer's Reviews) Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Ordered this pickup winder for a project I am doing at school the pupils are building guitars from kits (pity stewmac doesn't sell complete guitar kits) but they all have to wind their own pickups, at first I was quite surprised how small it was but it works really well and fast the counter is a great help as is the speed control, since I bought it I also have started a windmill project in another class (I live in Holland were mad about windmills) and we hand to wind 9 coils of fairly thick wire first I was hesitant to use the Schatten Winder it not being made for such a gauge wire but it worked great it ran a bit slower due to the weight of the wire but we were done in no time so thumbs up to the little winder, it is a bit expensive but I think all things that are not that common tend to be expensive due to manufacturing cost if you only sell a few it's going cost a lot. It would be a good if someone at Stewmac or Schatten (the manufacturer) could come up with a more efficient way to secure the bobbin double sided tape works but some kind of centrepoint (like on a lathe) or miniature vice might be a solution. anyway cool windings Neil
