2-in-1 Wire Cutter/Stripper

About This Item

One of our favorite tools for wiring guitars and amps: a carbon-steel cutter and stripper in one. A quick flick turns it from one tool into the other.

Wire cutter: sharp, angled carbon-steel blades get in close for a clean cut.
Wire stripper: removes insulation from wires sizes AWG10 down to 20 gauge.
Serrated pliers: tips with aggressive teeth for grabbing/pulling.

This tool works great and feels good in your hand. The steel frame is rugged, with comfortable insulating handles. The blades are good and sharp.

6-1/4" (15.88cm) total length. Not for use on guitar strings.

Expecting no less than perfect and supported by StewMac, the offered tools are a MUST on any tech/luthier work-table. All my tools come from them and I have years of work without any lose of accuracy or applicability. Thank you StewMac!

Really, really tiny wire .... hard to strip

But not with this tool... It manages to take the sheath without also taking the delicate wires underneath. First wire stripper I've had for small wire and love not having to use my teeth anymore!

Not Impressed

This tool looks great and the switch from cutters to strippers works well but two halves don't align so the stripping action is poor especially with smaller gauge wire. Needed a little more QC

Good product for the money

In the world of snips one has to consider price to quality. For $20 this is an excellent tool, convenience being a key factor in its design. I have a $40 set of Knipex cutters that are hardened and made in Germany. And that's just cutters. This tool in Knipex quality would probably cost $80 or more ... at $20 works well and will provide years of service. I would buy it again without question.

Disappointing

By

This was simply not up to the usual standard from Stewart McDonald. It's poor at stripping, especially AWG 20 & 18 and the snips were poor also. On close inspection I noticed snip's jaws didn't quiet touch, there was the slightest amount of day light between them.
All credit to Stewart McDonald they did give me a refund (as per their guarantee).
It looks like I'm the first one to review this tool and apparently the first to have a problem with it. Maybe I got the first dud as, according to Stewart McDonald, no one else has had a problem yet but there's always a first for everything.
