An outstanding primer

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I've been watching this DVD series while simultaneously assembling a StewMac dreadnought kit. This DVD series very well answers all of the "Why" questions I have, and it also gives me great ideas to pursue for when I've completed the kit and move on to building my own from scratch. I did find it pretty funny when, just after giving a speech about how you can do everything with tools found in a common shop, he moves over to a big drum sander to do some work. But overall, this has been money very well spent.

Great series, great teacher

I have had the privilege of learning to build my first guitar with Chris Wynne in person at Montsalvat in Melbourne. The course was life changing. The DVD series allowed me to take what I had learnt on the course and begin my journey as a luthier. I am now up to build no. 14 and have the confidence to create my own plans, inlays etc and none of it would have been possible without the invaluable information in the DVD series. If you are looking to build your first guitar, or even understand a little more about your second, you will definitely benefit form this series.

Not enough knowledge

In my opinion not very good. It's okay, but, leaving out very important info like cleaning your wood before glueing. Also very strange ways in doing things. And sometimes just plane wrong.

What a great course. Chris knows how to teach, and there is simply no substitute for seeing a technique being done in real time. If you are serious about building a guitar, this course is a must.

Excellent Course! WOW!

By

This video answered a lot of questions I had about how acoustics all fit together. A great overview of how they are built and many tips for us un-handy people along the way. I think Chris is a great teacher that really explains things quite well. Very impressed! Cheers!

I received this DVD set as a birthday gift from my wife and son. All I can say is Wow! Chris is an excellent teacher and keeps the 10 hours very engaging and informative. His unpretentious and supportive style is just what I needed. I found the information on Australian Timbers used in the series fascinating. I also love the little pocket sized ruler that came with the set. I am very pleased.

This is an absolute must for beginners, with over 10 hours of information, enough to give you the confidence to build your first acoustic.
Once you have mastered a couple of builds using this DVD set then you can experiment with confidence having acquired the basic skills and knowledge to try different bindings and finishes.
It's also refreshing to see some of the beautiful woods that Australia has to offer.

Fine Guitar Building Course

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I ordered this course because it looked better than the others. It is, in my opinion, the best.

I have read other reviews that criticize Chris Wynne because he didn't cover finishing well enough, or using various kinds of trim. Hey, the guy is teaching how to build a fine instrument and he has done that very well. Order one today and don't be afraid. It was money well spent.
Thank you Chris!

Careful the free ruler

By

A handy bonus pocket-size steel inch/metric conversion ruler included with this set is really nice, but beware: The Square end has some very sharp edges and when measuring your project could cause some bad scratches. Best take a file to it before use.

loved the DVD everything you need to build a good guitar... wish he would have explained what grades of sand paper he was using during the DVD.
