Tells the basics

The book is very informative but doesn't tell you how to repair. So I purchased another book called " Guitar player repair guide ". Much more detailed about the whole instrument. Has a C/D with it. Haven't watched the C/D yet!! Like it much better!! The "How to make your guitar play great " is ok. It tells basic set up and how to string guitars.

Great book to get that Ax in shape!

Moved home from Nashville where I had the pick of the litter of guitar wizards. Now that I'm in Kansas not so much! I searched for a good tech, had a setup done by a guy that was suggested by other guitar slingers and was disappointed. Decided to take matters into my own hands. I've done 3 set-ups and have my axes playing great. Lots of solid tips and tricks for different styles of guitar and typical issues that are seen often. Great Read!

I have the earlier version, and have made good use of it over the years. The new edition adds to it nicely. Very easy to follow and extremely helpful when I run into a problem with one of my guitars. Excellent and highly recommended

I bought this book knowing nothing about how to mod and maintain my guitars. This book is very helpful and will help me learn and not have to rely on others for maintenance and setups.

Incredibly useful reference

I've been meaning to write a review of this book for a while. I've had it for about 3 years and I come back to it over and over again. It's just full of useful information. Well done Dan Erlewine. This and "Electric Guitar and Bass Design" by Leo Lospennato are my go to books when I'm building or working on guitars.

Worth every cent.

Lots of great info in this book. For me, it has more than paid for itself already by helping fix a neck relief problem on a Strat that sat nearly untouched for 10 years.
Even if you already do your own setups, there's stuff to learn in here.

Excellent Resource

Every electric guitar owner will benefit from owning this book. Lots of great tips and descriptions for tuning, adjusting and servicing your electric guitar. I used this resource to bring my 1973 Les Paul Custom back up to snuff. I know this resource will be handy for years to come.

Wealth of Info

Bought it for my teenage son, but I've already used it myself, working on his and my guitars. Haven't even checked out the disc yet, there's so much in the book. The fact that it came autographed made it all the better as a gift.

Wish I had a book like this years ago. For years I thought I was doing a good job setting up my own guitars. With the information in this book my guitar setups are now like night and day. Thank! for showing me the light Dan.
