Jewelry for your insturment • A vintage material is reborn
Our ivoroid knobs, pins, and strap buttons are made of Galalith, a dense and durable casein-based material that polishes beautifully. Popular in the early 20th century, Galalith is found today in collectible vintage jewelry. It cannot be molded; each pin is precisely machined and has none of the unsightly mold lines common to plastic pins.

Perfect fit on my Five-Star tuners. Great vintage look. Thanks for the fast shipping too.

Go Amber!

Just a little different--look old-time but I've never seen "amber" tuners of the 70 year old variety. Nice dash of color for my Reiter Vega-style Tubaphone. They fit well and are just a little "different" in an understated kind of way. Great replacements for the Pearloids that came with the banjo which just didn't fit the open-back, scooped ebony fingerboard.

Best Ivoroid Buttons I've Found

By Kevin Barnsdale from Florida

Across the years I have picked up buttons from other sources. They didn't have the profile of these grained ivoroid buttons from Stewart MacDonald. These buttons have a smaller, less obtrusive shape to them. I needed to fit one to an odd 5th string peg and it was a breeze to work down.

Recently purchased a new open-back tubaphone from Mr. Bart Reiter. The amber knobs fit and give the old-time touch that the white pearloid just don't have!!!

Ordered these to replace the buttons on my Bishline. Snug fit with no modification.

 Ebony banjo tunner knobs

excellent fit except for the 5th string was a little loose

Not a Good Fit

By Wayne Tutzauer from Denver, CO
(Customer's Reviews) Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I agree with one other reviewer of these tuner knobs. Even though the catalog says they are replacements for the Five-Star tuners, the bore is too small. Fortunately, I had a micro file and was able to spend the hour required to enlarge the bore. However, the knob fit perfectly on the 5th string tuner without modifications.

Old Time style banjo Knobs

They are a perfect match to the vintage style old time open back banjo I built. Just the right look and quality! Thanks!

Vintage look

By Mark Harper from Lexington KY
(Customer's Reviews) Monday, January 21, 2013

I have replaced cheap looking pearloid knobs countless times with ivoroid knobs to give banjos a more vintage look. I use the ebony knobs on cam style D-tuners to have a good contrast. It is easier to grab the D-tuner knobs when they are different.

No problemo

By El Jaspero from Indianapolis, IN

Either I got lucky, or something in the manufacturing has changed - I just popped 5 ebony pegs onto a set of Five Stars for a faux-historical banjo project. No trouble, no filing, and they look great!
