3/8" Conversion Tuner Bushing

About This Item

Round and hex shape bushings for adapting 1/4" string posts to fit larger pegholes. Set of 6.

Conversion bushing example
Adapts 1/4" string post to fit larger pegholes.
Our special tapered knurled press-fit brass bushings lets you install Waverly or other tuning machines with 1/4"-diameter string posts into 3/8" or 10mm pegholes (Gotoh/Grover/Schaller) with no redrilling.

Note: these conversions bushings will not work on instruments with 10.5mm pegholes. Measure the tuner hole diameter prior to ordering.

For a perfect fit, we recommend the #2065 Peghead Bushing Reamer (.393" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore.

Trade Secrets!

Trade Secrets!

Homemade bushing puller to protect the peghead

Dan Erlewine needs to pull the tuner grommets/bushings from the peghead of this old Gibson. The lacquer is already damaged, and pulling the bushings can yank finish off too. Dan rigs a jig that holds the finish down while the bushing comes up.

Fit perfect

They fit perfect but if your peghead has a plastic overlay be careful they don't cause hairline cracks since plastic won't compress a little for the press fit. Do a (very) little reaming of the hole top to be safe. Other overlay materials are probably ok.
This totally beats filling holes and drilling out or wrapping old bushings with tape and gluing in!

Great fix for 3/8" hole.

Great quality and they look great. Slight taper on the outside diameter worked well for my project.

Build quality is good. Unfortunately its not a tight fit

I bought this for my 2017 gibson les paul traditional T so I can install my gotoh vintage style self locking tuner. Unfortunately it is not a tight fit on the existing gibson tuner hole. Had to improvise and put a masking tape to make it fit. Should have gotten the 10.5mm version. The build quality on this are good tho.

These worked great for helping to cover up the tuning holes left on a '65 Melody Maker that had been Grover'd in the past.

Just What I Needed

By

Just purchased a Yamaha FG 300. The tuners were bad so I order a new set of tuners from Stewmac (Grover). Guess what the bushings would not work for this guitar. So I starter looking at Stewmac's bushings. I found these 3/8 tuner conversion bushings and with a little wood removal from each hole the bushings pressed right in. Perfect! Thanks Stewmac once again.

An essential item

In purchasing guitar necks for a home built guitar the basic concern is the style of the head. Not true anymore. It seems the holes for the tuning machines vary in sizes. These 3/8" conversion bushings fit into the larger tuning machine hole yet condense to the proper diameter for the shaft of the tuning machine. It's a good idea to buy an extra set not knowing when the neck guitar neck sports a larger set of holes.

Guitar renewal

By

These bushings are a great way to make an old guitar look new again. Several years ago I had to replace a set of "three on a plate" tuners on an old 1965 Gibson. They came with bushings and the guitar looked so much better.
