3/8" Conversion Tuner Bushing

About This Item

Round and hex shape bushings for adapting 1/4" string posts to fit larger pegholes. Set of 6.

Conversion bushing example
Adapts 1/4" string post to fit larger pegholes.
Our special tapered knurled press-fit brass bushings lets you install Waverly or other tuning machines with 1/4"-diameter string posts into 3/8" or 10mm pegholes (Gotoh/Grover/Schaller) with no redrilling.

Note: these conversions bushings will not work on instruments with 10.5mm pegholes. Measure the tuner hole diameter prior to ordering.

For a perfect fit, we recommend the #2065 Peghead Bushing Reamer (.393" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore.

Trade Secrets!

Trade Secrets!

Homemade bushing puller to protect the peghead

Dan Erlewine needs to pull the tuner grommets/bushings from the peghead of this old Gibson. The lacquer is already damaged, and pulling the bushings can yank finish off too. Dan rigs a jig that holds the finish down while the bushing comes up.

Guitar renewal

By

These bushings are a great way to make an old guitar look new again. Several years ago I had to replace a set of "three on a plate" tuners on an old 1965 Gibson. They came with bushings and the guitar looked so much better.

I looked all over and Stew Mac pulled through. They were dead on with thier advice and my tuners couldn't be happier!

I needed bushings to facilitate the vintage tuners I bought. They were a perfect fit and they arrived in a timely fashion.
Thanks.

Not a great fit for Grover geared tuners

By

Verified Buyer

I bought these to retrofit my tenor ukulele to accommodate Grover tuning machines. The conversion bushings were recommended by StewMac for my new Grovers I had bought from them. While the bushings fit nicely in the peg holes of my ukulele, the inside diameter of the bushings is larger than the string posts of the Grovers; thus there is some sloppy play between the string posts and the inside of the tuner bushings. I think it will work well enough though, in absence of something with a better fit...

I've always filled in tuner holes and redrilled to make the new tuners fit properly....but there's no need to anymore in most cases.

Never seen these anyplace else! Always used low tack masking tape previously. Shame on me! These bushings fit perfectly-almost pressing in by hand with only gentle mechanical advantage needed (I used a padded 3" C clamp). Highly recommended!
