3/8" Conversion Tuner Bushing

About This Item

Round and hex shape bushings for adapting 1/4" string posts to fit larger pegholes. Set of 6.

Conversion bushing example
Adapts 1/4" string post to fit larger pegholes.
Our special tapered knurled press-fit brass bushings lets you install Waverly or other tuning machines with 1/4"-diameter string posts into 3/8" or 10mm pegholes (Gotoh/Grover/Schaller) with no redrilling.

Note: these conversions bushings will not work on instruments with 10.5mm pegholes. Measure the tuner hole diameter prior to ordering.

For a perfect fit, we recommend the #2065 Peghead Bushing Reamer (.393" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore.

Trade Secrets!

Trade Secrets!

Homemade bushing puller to protect the peghead

Dan Erlewine needs to pull the tuner grommets/bushings from the peghead of this old Gibson. The lacquer is already damaged, and pulling the bushings can yank finish off too. Dan rigs a jig that holds the finish down while the bushing comes up.

As I already had drilled the holes to suit another brand of tuner these bushings where necessary to create a nice fit firm fit for the replacement Gotoh Vintage staggered tuners.

Dropped into my 2015 mim strat almost perfectly!

I love kluson style vintage split post tuners on my guitars. These bushings allowed me to put the Fender branded split post safety tuners on my newly purchased 2015 mim strat. The old tuners left a 10 mm mounting hole, so I purchased the #3458 bushings. These bushings pressed firmly by hand into the E, A, D, and G tuning machine holes with a snug secure fit, but fit loosely in to the B and e holes and would actually fall out. I solved the problem by running a little hot glue around those two holes and pressing the bushings in while the glue was hot. I wonder if the bushings for the 10.5 mm mounting holes would have pressed in to these size holes better, since they are tapered. Pleasantly surprised too see vintage tuners covered all the holes on back of head stock from the original double pinned tuners. First guitar I haven't had to fill extra holes on. Worked out well and could not be happier. Pretty sure falling out issue was problem with hole tolerance of headstock and not problem with bushings.

What an excellent and cost-effective solution. I just used them to put Waverly's on a Grover-equipped Martin. Saved me hours of plugging and re-drilling, and saved the customer the extra labor charge. I didn't even have to ream, they fit perfectly, and they look right.

Not tight enough, I took the old grover tuners out of a few guitars and these bushings didnt fit snug in any of them.
