3/8" Conversion Tuner Bushing

About This Item

Round and hex shape bushings for adapting 1/4" string posts to fit larger pegholes. Set of 6.

Conversion bushing example
Adapts 1/4" string post to fit larger pegholes.
Our special tapered knurled press-fit brass bushings lets you install Waverly or other tuning machines with 1/4"-diameter string posts into 3/8" or 10mm pegholes (Gotoh/Grover/Schaller) with no redrilling.

Note: these conversions bushings will not work on instruments with 10.5mm pegholes. Measure the tuner hole diameter prior to ordering.

For a perfect fit, we recommend the #2065 Peghead Bushing Reamer (.393" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore.

Trade Secrets!

Trade Secrets!

Homemade bushing puller to protect the peghead

Dan Erlewine needs to pull the tuner grommets/bushings from the peghead of this old Gibson. The lacquer is already damaged, and pulling the bushings can yank finish off too. Dan rigs a jig that holds the finish down while the bushing comes up.

What an excellent and cost-effective solution. I just used them to put Waverly's on a Grover-equipped Martin. Saved me hours of plugging and re-drilling, and saved the customer the extra labor charge. I didn't even have to ream, they fit perfectly, and they look right.

Bushing fit

Not tight enough, I took the old grover tuners out of a few guitars and these bushings didnt fit snug in any of them.

I wanted to convert from rotomatics to staytite machines to take the weight off the headstock of my Pimentel 001-A,a small guitar. I asked stew mac,for advise and they suggested the conversion bushing. Everything worked out great, love the new machines and good advise.

Regards, Bob.

Finally put vintage tuners on a modern instrument

They fit perfectly on a 2003 Gibson LPJ and I was able to put vintage machine heads on the guitar. If you're current machine heads take a 10mm bushing they will do the trick for installing vintage type machine heads.

Worked on my 2015 MIM. Put on some Kluson-style tuners and they look great. (Note: Don't make the mistake of buying the 10.5mm for your MIM. They will not fit. I learned that the hard way)

Service from Stew-Mac was great.

Gold on gold

I used the gold conversion bushings with a set of gold Waverly butter beans. The gold on the bushings is quite a bit lighter than the gold on the Waverlys - worried me at first, but once installed the difference didn't bother me. They do their job well.

Perfect for a 1963 Jet Star

The original 3 on plate tuners kept pulling off the back of the headstock because the original holes for the tuning posts weren't on center from the Hoboken factory. By installing these bushings with a set of Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite tuners I got a guitar that stayed in tune without out any redrilling or overlay repairs on the headstock

These tuners bushings work as advertised. I installed them on my Taylor 410 when I replaced the stock ping tuners with Waverlys.

Needed bushings!!

These fit perfectly in the tuner holes in my D-18 Martin when I installed Waverlys.. I didn't need the tapered reamers and I pressed them in with a small padded C-clamp..I do wish that washers would be added to cover the indents from the original tuners from Martin.. Part of an excellent upgrade to my classic Martin!!
