10.5mm Round Conversion Bushings

About This Item

Press-fit brass conversion bushings let you install tuning machines with 1/4"-diameter string posts into Fender's modern 10.5mm-diameter pegholes.

Great for retrofitting vintage-style tuners — no need to plug and redrill the peghead. Special relic nickel finish complements vintage hardware. Set of 6.

Please measure your pegholes before ordering.

Homemade bushing puller to protect the peghead

Dan Erlewine needs to pull the tuner grommets/bushings from the peghead of this old Gibson. The lacquer is already damaged, and pulling the bushings can yank finish off too. Dan rigs a jig that holds the finish down while the bushing comes up.

Saved me a lot of work...

By

I recently ordered a guitar online. Great little instrument but it came with Chinese Grover style machines. These were well-made tuning machines but made the guitar a little bit head heavy. To rectify this condition I decided to replace them with a set of Chinese Kluson style tuners complete with Keystone jade color buttons. So to make a long story short these little conversion bushings were just the ticket saved me a lot of work didn't have to plug the holes and re-bore. All I had do was ream out some polishing compound and wax residue that was inside the holes, no wood was removed in the fitting process, afterward the bushings press fit into the holes with just the right amount of snugness.

Caveat - I don't know if the face of these sits higher above the peghead surface than normal bushings, because no dimensions are given, but I used these on a Gibson Les Paul, with Gotoh vintage-style tuners, and the tuner shafts barely protrude far enough above the bushing surface to allow a couple of wraps on the wound strings. YMMV

Copper shielding made for the job!

By

Verified Buyer

I purchased the shielding to nix RFI in my telecaster. This tape is made specifically for this purpose. On eBay, you may find tape cheaper, but it is designed for flashing (to redirect water around roof protrusions), and it does not have conductive adhesive, requiring a jumper to join pieces. Stew-Mac's tape has conductive adhesive, eliminating additional steps.

I ordered the product on a Thusday afternoon, and am fortunate to live within a distance which brought it to my doorstep in less than 24 hours, packaged with care.

Conversion bushings aged.

By

Couldn't believe my luck when Stewart Mac sent me an Email featuring different products they had available including these lifesaving little gems.
I have a vintage axe that a previous owner swapped the original tuners out for Grovers. As he supplied the original tuners with the guitar, when I purchased it, I planned to swap them back only to find the bushing holes had been enlarged so the original bushings were too small .
Was facing a time consuming dowl glue and re drill exercise , until I ordered a set of these conversion bushings .
They pushed straight in and fixed the problem in a few minutes , the aging on them was perfect too, you'd never pick they weren't originals ..
Thanks Stewart Mac :-)

Just what I needed

By

I was working on a mandolin that had the key holes drilled to a larger size than my bushings were. I searched on line at stewmac and found the size that I needed and bought them. They were just what I needed. I had to buy 2 packs to get enough to do the job. I wish they would pack 8 to a pack. They were very good quality and done the job for me. Thanks StewMac.

Perfect fit!

These were absolutely perfect to add my set of Grover Sta-Tites to my build. I would suggest leaving them out until you have properly finished buffing and polishing the guitar, I was a bit too aggressive and took the gold off mine :- Great product! Great staff!
