Waverly Guitar Tuners with Butterbean Knobs, for Solid Pegheads

About This Item

The choice of renowned guitarmakers for their finest instruments.
"They hold their tune and look superb…of course I recommend Waverly."—Dick Boak, Martin Guitars

With Waverly tuners, your guitar plays in tune and stays in tune. Their acclaimed design, precise 16:1 gear ratio, long-life stainless steel/bronze construction, and smooth, reliable operation have made them the favorite of renowned guitarmakers and musicians for their finest instruments.

Waverly tuners offer modern precision with vintage style. Try our relic nickel finish, an antique look for vintage and reproduction guitars.

Martin, Gibson, Collings, Santa Cruz, Huss & Dalton, Sams, Bourgeois and other guitarmakers specify Waverly tuners for their top-line instruments.

Why do the pros choose Waverly tuners?

Smoother, more efficient tuning.
Waverly's renowned gear mechanism is second to none. Waverly tuners feature a proven, precisely machined design ensuring accurate, efficient gear alignment. Nylon worm gear bushings enhance the smooth feel. The result: looseness is eliminated—your guitar plays in tune and stays in tune.

Longer life with less wear.
Waverly's stainless steel worm gear and machined bronze alloy string post gear are more durable than the brass gears used in other tuners.

Vintage details.
The look is right at home on vintage-style instruments. Authentic "Butterbean" knobs (a description coined by the late Martin historian Mike Longworth) are solid brass, not die-cast, with the historically-correct shape not found on other modern tuners.

  • Set of 6: 3-left/3-right
  • Mounting screws and bushings included
The sturdy steel baseplates have the authentic 1930s footprint. String posts are vintage-style tapered 1/4"-diameter brass, with press-fit knurled brass hex bushings to fit 11/32"-diameter pegholes. Slot-head mounting screws complete the vintage look; there are no additional holes to drill on many older Martins and Gibsons.

The cure for sweet old guitars with cranky old tuners!
Waverly Relics make your vintage or reproduction instrument look and tune as good as it sounds. The special relic nickel finish has that authentic "played for 80 years" patina that makes shiny new tuners look out of place on a fine old guitar.

Installation Tips

Bushings: Get the right fit! Use our slow-speed #2062 Bushing Reamer (.340" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore for a professional job.

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1712 Depth-stop Drill Bit (5/64" bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Conversion peghead bushings are also available for retrofitting Waverly tuners into larger Gotoh, Grover or Schaller pegholes, without doweling and redrilling. A Stewart-MacDonald exclusive!

My 2 Martins have never looked/played better

My wife picked up 2 sets of these tuners(butterbean for my D35 and relics for my 000) for Christmas. Probably wouldnt have been a great idea to put them on as soon as I got them(had a house full of people) so I waited until the next day. It could not have been more satisfying. Only had to drill 1 new hole for the relics, but the butterbeans required 2 new holes. Still not a problem, as the new tuners covered the old footprints. Took the opportunity to gloss the faceplates on both guitars as well. You will need to ream(slightly) the holes to allow for the new bushings. I cannot stop looking at my guitars now!!

Waverly Guitar Tuners with Butterbean Knobs, for Solid Pegheads

Very nice tuners used to replace original Grover butterbean's on my 1960 Martin 000-18. Fit perfectly except for bushings, which were ever so slightly too big and would have required drilling. I opted to just keep the original bushings on, which also had the benefit of making the guitar look the same from the front. Not sure if paying about three times the price of Grover's own replacement tuners is worth it, but I went on reputation.

Awesome Tuners!

I bought a set of the 4060's to replace the Martin (Gotoh's) on my Martin OM-28 Marquis. I gig a lot, so I need to depend on my tuners to stay in tune and Waverly's are very dependable. They look great and perform flawlessly.

Blown away by the quality and style

Verified Buyer

Bought the Waverly relic tuning machines for my Martin OOO. As always the quality, and craftsmanship lives up to its name. If you are new to installing these make sure you buy the press tool for the grommets or ask Stewmac techs and they'll get you what you need.

I will use these again and I recommend them to others.

Superb Waverly butterbean, nickel tuners!

I replaced the stock Gotoh with Waverly tuners on 00028EC what difference. My luthier Marty Fair of Fairbuilt guitars used a StewMac press with no problems screws lined up as well. Gear ratio much better for fine tuning, no extreme pitch jumps like Gotoh.

I got the relic one.. but..

Verified Buyer

It doesn't look same as the photo on this webpage. :(

If you expect it looks real relic style, You might be disappointed. I installed it with my Martin D28. It was ok. but It is not worth to pay extra money for relic option.

Waverly tuning machines.

I replaced the stock gold butterbean Gotohs on my Martin 000-42 with Waverlys. The bushings on the Gotohs were loose and I didn't like the 14:1 gear ratio. The Waverlys were a direct fit with only minimal reaming necessary (the peghole reamer from Stew-Mac made this easy and precise). I used the Gotoh mounting screws. I am pleased with the look of the Waverlys and the 16:1 gear ratio of the Waverlys vs. the 14:1 Gotohs.

Without A Doubt My Martins Love Waverly Tuners!

Verified Buyer

I have been playing Martin guitars for 40+ years and recently I went nuts and purchased two within a month of each other. Both of those guitars were treated to Waverly Guitar Tuners. One with Ivoroid Butterbeans and one with Nickel Butterbeans. In both cases I love them and so do my Martins. Easy to install and the investment is now affordable for me. PLUS, they have a fine vintage look to them which I also love.

Nice Tuners

Verified Buyer

Installed tuners as an upgrade of older open back Grovers. The Waverly's were a mounting hole match so installation was easy. These are very smooth operating and no backlash and a major improvement over the Grovers. Finish of knobs, gears, screws, and shaft are all first rate. Backplate finish and name stamp are not bad but are clearly a step down from the rest of the finishes and for this reason I dropped down a star. StewMac customer service was awesome.
