About This Item

Inexpensive tuners are a quick and easy way to get your guitar up and strummin' again.

Installation Tips

Bushings: We recommend the #2061 Bushing Reamer (.328" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore for a professional job. Fit the press-fit tuner bushings correctly so your tuners will work smoothly.

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1711 Depth-stop Drill Bit (No.50 bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Make no mistake, these are cheap for a reason. I knew that when I purchased them. The rating isn't a reflection of whether the product was misrepresented or not but more of a representation of the actual quality.

I bought them because a customer had a cheap Alvarez 12 string acoustic with one of it's tuners in an unusable state. Not only did these tuners looked like a direct replacement and were about the same quality as the originals but even had the same screw hole locations.

They were cheap enough that the customer went ahead and approved replacing all the tuners so I ordered two sets (12 string). They all installed perfectly and looked just as advertised but one of them did have a gearing issue. At a certain point it would bind up and the tuning peg wouldn't turn. You can force it past that point and the tuner will continue to work again until it binds up and you go through the process again. It will tune the string but it's an obvious problem. In my investigations, it appears that the gear that drives the worm gear was slightly damaged (manufactured incorrectly) and made it through the QC dept undetected.

I pointed this issue out to the customer and explained that StewMac would be happy to replace it if he wanted to wait. Ultimately he didn't care though (because he knew it was a cheap instrument) as long as it worked well enough to tune the instrument.

Easy Install and look's great

Got these in the mail Thursday and installed them that very night in about 45 mins.
The neck on my semi-acoustic build has a peghead with 8 mm peg holes. Just a small amount of reaming by hand with a drill bit (do not use a hand held electric drill please) made it so I could press the supplied bushings in by hand. The rest was just as easy.
These tuner's look to be of good quality for the price. Lookin' good!

Great Value

I have been installing these tuners on custom made dulcimers. I like the clean, simple look of these tuners and find that they operate smoothly. The gears seem to be have a better fit than other economy tuners that I have used.
