Golden Age Restoration Tuners for Slotted Peghead Guitar - Bell-end

About This Item

Pre-war tuners reborn! Our replica 3-on-plate tuners with simple incised baseplates, as produced by Waverly from the 1920s to the '40s.

They feature authentic steel baseplates and cream knobs, plus 15:1 gear ratio for better tuning than the originals.

Golden Age tuners are available exclusively from StewMac, made with our expert eye for details and exact specifications.

"People who build replica instruments or who do restoration or repair work are just going to love these." —Frank Ford, vintage instrument repair expert

Golden Age tuners are the rebirth of popular early 20th Century tuning machine designs, featuring simple steel plates and open gears. Replacements for the originals have long been sought by collectors and repairmen, to restore older guitars and improve their tuning. Our special relic nickel-finished versions complement vintage hardware and add an authentic look to reproduction guitars.

  • 15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
  • Vintage-style riveted worm supports
  • Original-shape cream plastic knobs; relic tuners have knobs with a matte finish
  • .236" (6.00mm) string post diameter
  • Original mounting screw spacing (screws included)
  • 1-3/8" (34.93mm) string post spacing
  • Bright nickel, relic nickel or relic brass finishes

Also available to fit solid pegheads.

Note: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly aligned. Our Tuner Drill Jig ensures the correct spacing for accurate tuning.

"The Golden Age Restoration tuners are really great. I have just put them onto my 1929 Gibson L-1. I like the fact that someone went to the trouble of making them look right." —John Evans, Brussels Belgium

"Great tuners with the right look and feel! The only thing different about them is that they are better made and more functional." —Richard Barnes, Pomona CA

nice simple machine

By

Verified Buyer

I look for light weight in tuners, especially for an 0 size guitar. There is a small amount of play, or backlash, which usually disappears under string tension. I like the simplicity of the machine, the engraved border adding just enough decoration so the machine doesn't look bland. And for only $50 I think it's well worth it.

Great tuners

By

Just added these to my 1933 00-21 Martin that had bright nickel Waverly's. I was looking for the silver aged tuners but they were sold out at the time. Just wanted to go for a more "aged" look. So thought I'd try the brass ones and they look and function great! Thanks Stewmac!

They fit perfectly my Martin 000-15SM guitar. They look great and relic brass color looks vintage. I'm very happy with this purchase. Thanks. Enrico Cervi from Italy.

Great for those restoring an old guitar....

Decent quality tuners with the look of vintage...why suffer with worn out gears and trying to mismatch parts. The best idea is put the old tuners in the case and the new where you can enjoy them.

Redoing a guitar needed quality machineheads. These fit the bill.

great replacements for my Republic parlor

By

I was unhappy with the original equipment machine heads on my new Republic parlor. these replacements (with almost exact hole alignment as the original) are smoother, less catching resulting in under/over shooting pitch. and on my antique copper body the relic brass looks great

Perfect drop in for 000-15sm

By

So far, so good. These are identical to the stock tuners (including branding) found on my stock 000-15sm. Installation took 3 minutes, and the brass with cream buttons compliments the mahogany nicely. I was hoping for something a little more durable, but for the price, you can't beat'em.

Perfect fit on the stewmac necks. Nice flathead screws look vintage. Tuning feel is ok, not like Waverly's but good enough.
