Grover F-Style 309 Mandolin Tuning Machines

About This Item

Grover F-style mandolin tuners are available in two different gear configurations, with engraved die-cast baseplates and 18:1 gear ratio.

Standard 29/32" (23mm) string post spacing.
11/32"-diameter (8.73mm) pegholes required.

Each set includes:
• Pair of 4-left, 4-right tuning machines
• Removable pearloid plastic knobs
• Press-fit peghead bushings
• Mounting screws

Available in two different gear configurations:
#5675 with worm gear under string post (turn the the knob counterclockwise to tighten the string)
#5674 with worm gear over string post (turn the knob clockwise to tighten the string)
Important: These two styles may not be interchangeable on the same peghead. See Specs before ordering.

Installation Tips

Peghole spacing: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly drilled. Our Mandolin Peghead Drill Jig ensures precise 29/32" spacing for accurate alignment for these tuning machines.

Bushings: We recommend the Standard Peghole Reamer to cut smooth, perfectly round holes.

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1711 Depth-stop Drill Bit (No.50 bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

I had been struggling with cheap tuners on my Morgan Monroe mandolin for years. Replaced them with the Grover and its like a new mando. Wish I would have done this years ago.

Swapping out Gotoh tuners on the Loar M-600

By

I have a Loar M-600 mandolin which comes stock with Gotoh tuners. I've had real trouble keeping in tune and getting to proper tune with the strings jumping sharp of what I'm trying to achieve. I decided to try Grovers with a lower gear ratio. I have to tell you that they work great! Installation was easy. The machine holes lined up and three out of the five screw holes lined up. I used the existing bushings and screws. All I had to do was drill pilot holes at each end of the back of the machines in place on the mando scroll. The original screw holes are covered by the back plates and do not interfere with the new holes. The Gotoh machine plates extended a little further toward the nut side of the tuners so you can see a slight impression of the end of the plate in the wood on the back of the scroll. Not a big deal. The tuners are far superior and make tuning to proper pitch a snap. Delivery from Stew-Mac was quick. Money well spent.
