Details

Completely redesigned! Improved tuning for vintage-style mandolins, without giving up the authentic look.

Tired of fighting cantankerous old tuners but don't want to give up the vintage look? We have completely redesigned our Golden Age mandolin tuners! Under the direction of StewMac's Don MacRostie, renowned mandolin maker, we've brought back classic features of tuning machines from the pre-World War II era.

"Over the years we've tried every mandolin tuner under the sun. Of all the options, the Golden Age tuners have been the obvious choice for our mandolins." —Alex Rueb, Collings Guitars

A-style models also available.

The look of the old, the reliability of the new.
The look is more authentic than ever, but close-tolerance specifications, nylon worm bearings, and 15:1 gear ratio make Golden Age tuners smoother and more efficient than vintage machines ever were. Two optional relic finishes duplicate that "well-played" patina that makes most other modern tuners look johnny-come-lately on a vintage or reproduction instrument. The distinctive Loar-shape steel baseplates even have the same footprint and engraving as 1920s originals.

The details are 1920s too:
Old-style string post shape
Square worm supports
Straight-slot worm gear screws
Roundhead straight-slot mounting screws
Removable black or ivoroid knobs with vintage shape

Each set includes 4-left / 4-right tuners with mounting screws and press-fit peghead bushings.

Gear ratio15:1
String post diameter0.236" (6mm)
String post spacing29/32" standard (23mm)
Required peghole diameter.336" (8.53mm)

Tip: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly drilled. Our Mandolin Peghead Drill Jig ensures precise 29/32" spacing for accurate alignment for these tuning machines.

I found the tuners to be as advertised. The fit, finish were good with relatively smooth operation.

I was first attracted to these for the looks. I wanted a vintage vibe for my latest F style mando build. The look is great, but the performance and function even better. GREAT VALUE!

They look great and work great

After installing my Golden Age F-style Mandolin Tuners I was impressed with the classic look. I was even more impressed with their functionality. My Summit F100 came with a decent name brand tuner, but the Golden Age are far superior, very smooth, tunes in very small increments. An excellent value.

Just right

At last, an affordable, working set of authentic-looking precision tuners for any F mandolin. This is the set that we should have had all these years. First came the vintage A model set, which is the only thing to put on your snakehead (I put them on mine). Then came these for the 'florentines'. The vintage brass set looks perfect on my F5 copy (I added the pearl buttons).
*Tech support is 1st rate, too. Thanks, Mike McGovern.

Perfect tuning machine for Loar copies

Almost perfect copy of the Weaverly Loar F tuners except the knobs. I replaced them to my old Gotoh mother of pearl knobs for the perfect look. The tuning performance of this tuner is more than average.

These tuners are great and will be my only selection in the future for my mandolins. They look correct for the period and are very smooth.
