Golden Age Restoration Tuners for Solid Peghead Guitar with Scallop-end

About This Item

Pre-war Kluson style tuners reborn! Replica 3-on-plate tuners with "bent tab" worm supports, as made by Kluson from the 1930s to the '70s.

They feature authentic steel baseplates and white plastic knobs, plus 15:1 gear ratio for better tuning than the originals.

Golden Age tuners are exclusively from Stewart-MacDonald, made with our eye for details and exact specifications.

"People who build replica instruments or who do restoration or repair work are just going to love these."
—Frank Ford, vintage instrument repair expert

Golden Age tuners are the rebirth of popular early 20th Century tuning machine designs, featuring simple steel plates and open gears. Replacements for the originals have long been sought by collectors and repairmen, to restore older guitars and improve their tuning. Our special relic nickel-finished versions complement vintage hardware and add an authentic look to reproduction guitars.

Bright nickel tuners have original-shape white plastic knobs. Relic nickel tuners have the same knobs, but with a matte finish.

15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
Vintage-style riveted worm supports
.236" (6.00mm) string post diameter
Press-fit peghead bushings
Original mounting screw spacing (screws incuded)
1-3/8" (34.93mm) string post spacing

Also available to fit slotted pegheads.

Note: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly aligned. Our Tuner Drill Jig ensures the correct spacing for accurate tuning.

"The Golden Age Restoration tuners are really great. I have just put them onto my 1929 Gibson L-1...I like the fact that someone went to the trouble of making them look right."
—John Evans, Brussels Belgium

"Great tuners with the right look and feel! The only thing different about them is that they are better made and more functional."
—Richard Barnes, Pomona CA

replacement tuners for 1934 Gibson L-OO

(Customer's Reviews)

I needed to replace the tuners on a clients 1934 Gibson L-OO and these were the perfect fit. They made the tuner smoother and allowed him to keep his vintage look.

Quality Tuners

(Customer's Reviews)

I installed these recently purchased tuners on my old 1962 Supro Coronado. The old Klusons were difficult to turn, with bent shafts. Would highly recommend, especially for the money.

Great replacements

(Customer's Reviews)

I have used these tuners for several older Gibson guitars in dire need of replacement. My customers are satisfied , and so am I.

Worked perfect for my 1911 Gibson L-1

(Customer's Reviews)

These were exactly what I was waiting for to replace my aging non original tuners that were on my 1911 Gibson L-1. Perfect!

Great tuners.

(Customer's Reviews)

I used the relic nickel tuners and ferrules to restore a Silvertone 621 acoustic guitar. These fit perfectly and work very well. The guitar stays in tune a long time. Tuner buttons on Silvertones were originally white so these were perfect for the job!

Perfect fit

(Customer's Reviews)

I replaced the tuners on a 1959 Levin (made in Sweden). They fit perfectly and look very similar to the originals. I am impressed.

Relic Nickle

(Customer's Reviews)

Nice tuners,Definitely an improvement over stock ones Gibson installed on the LGO's in 1964. Noticeably smother action due to the 15:1 ratio. I would liked to have seen a little more yellowing of the knobs to go along with it's relic theme, as well as better alignment of screw holes.

I'll buy them again

(Customer's Reviews)

I had to replace some Grover tuners off a 1936 Gretsch for a client and these worked perfect, heck they're better than the original equipment. Even though the plate has a different shape than the original Grover's it covered the old footprint perfectly.

Great Vintage Look

(Customer's Reviews)

I used these tuners recently on repairing a 30's era Gibson. They work great and gave the old guitar a bit of its character back. Highly recommend these tuners.

Smooth and nice looking

(Customer's Reviews)

Very great and fit perfectly my 50's Kay N-3! Would have been 5-stars if the black knobs option was available...
