Golden Age Restoration Tuners for Solid Peghead Guitar with Scallop-end

Pre-war Kluson style tuners reborn! Replica 3-on-plate tuners with "bent tab" worm supports, as made by Kluson from the 1930s to the '70s.

They feature authentic steel baseplates and white plastic knobs, plus 15:1 gear ratio for better tuning than the originals.

Golden Age tuners are exclusively from Stewart-MacDonald, made with our eye for details and exact specifications.

"People who build replica instruments or who do restoration or repair work are just going to love these."
—Frank Ford, vintage instrument repair expert

Golden Age tuners are the rebirth of popular early 20th Century tuning machine designs, featuring simple steel plates and open gears. Replacements for the originals have long been sought by collectors and repairmen, to restore older guitars and improve their tuning. Our special relic nickel-finished versions complement vintage hardware and add an authentic look to reproduction guitars.

Bright nickel tuners have original-shape white plastic knobs. Relic nickel tuners have the same knobs, but with a matte finish.

15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
Vintage-style riveted worm supports
.236" (6.00mm) string post diameter
Press-fit peghead bushings
Original mounting screw spacing (screws incuded)
1-3/8" (34.93mm) string post spacing

Also available to fit slotted pegheads.

Note: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly aligned. Our Tuner Drill Jig ensures the correct spacing for accurate tuning.

"The Golden Age Restoration tuners are really great. I have just put them onto my 1929 Gibson L-1...I like the fact that someone went to the trouble of making them look right."
—John Evans, Brussels Belgium

"Great tuners with the right look and feel! The only thing different about them is that they are better made and more functional."
—Richard Barnes, Pomona CA

The relic finish is absolutely perfect for my vintage arch top. Plus, the mechanics of the Golden Age tuners is far superior to the original Kluson tuners.

The bright nickel bent tab tuners were the perfect replacements for the frozen klusons on a '40s era Kay archtop. Stable tuning and great looks who can ask for more?

Nice tuners

These have a great vintage look and with a little stain on the buttons and dirt under the gears they pass for original. However, for one job I needed black buttons and had to buy them extra and change them - not easy. Rating would be 5* if there was a black button option.

I bought these to replace some badly worn tuners on a 1938 Gibson L-00 given to me by my grandfather. They fit perfectly and look great.

Golden Age Restoration "Bent Tab" Tuners

By
(Customer's Reviews)

These are great tuners and value for the money. I replaced two sets of stock Gibson tuners on a 1906 and 1926 L-1.(yes...I kept the original tuners) The old tuners had no torque and the tuner buttons were very weak. They look the part, too. This was easy and required minimal effort. Well done Stew-Mac.

The wait is over!

My "Banner Head" Gibson LG-2 lost its original tuners. The original tuners were open-geared and exact replacements could not be had with the plate footprint to match the original. At least not until now. With the relic finish bent tab 3 on a plate tuners I have an exact replacement that looks almost original and works better than I expected. They are great.

In Harmony

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I recently put a set of these "Relic Nickel" turners on a '60s Harmony Master arch top guitar. The original turners were shot. This set was the closest to the originals that I could find. Now my Harmony will stay in-tune and string adjustments are easy. Nice quality tuners, while keeping the vintage look.
