Details

Pre-war tuners reborn! Our replica 3-on-plate tuners with simple incised baseplates, as produced by Waverly from the 1920s to the '40s.

They feature authentic steel baseplates and cream knobs, plus 15:1 gear ratio for better tuning than the originals.

Golden Age tuners are exclusively from Stewart-MacDonald, made with our eye for details and exact specifications.

"People who build replica instruments or who do restoration or repair work are just going to love these." —Frank Ford, vintage instrument repair expert

Golden Age tuners are the rebirth of popular early 20th Century tuning machine designs, featuring simple steel plates and open gears. Replacements for the originals have long been sought by collectors and repairmen, to restore older guitars and improve their tuning. Our special relic nickel-finished versions complement vintage hardware and add an authentic look to reproduction guitars.

  • 15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
  • Vintage-style riveted worm supports
  • Original-shape cream plastic knobs; relic tuners have knobs with a matte finish
  • .236" (6.00mm) string post diameter
  • Original mounting screw spacing (screws included)
  • 1-3/8" (34.93mm) string post spacing
  • Bright nickel, relic nickel or relic brass finishes

Also available to fit solid pegheads.

Note: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly aligned. Our Tuner Drill Jig ensures the correct spacing for accurate tuning.

"The Golden Age Restoration tuners are really great. I have just put them onto my 1929 Gibson L-1. I like the fact that someone went to the trouble of making them look right." —John Evans, Brussels Belgium

"Great tuners with the right look and feel! The only thing different about them is that they are better made and more functional." —Richard Barnes, Pomona CA

great replacements for my Republic parlor

By

I was unhappy with the original equipment machine heads on my new Republic parlor. these replacements (with almost exact hole alignment as the original) are smoother, less catching resulting in under/over shooting pitch. and on my antique copper body the relic brass looks great

Perfect drop in for 000-15sm

By
(Customer's Reviews)

So far, so good. These are identical to the stock tuners (including branding) found on my stock 000-15sm. Installation took 3 minutes, and the brass with cream buttons compliments the mahogany nicely. I was hoping for something a little more durable, but for the price, you can't beat'em.

Nice Tuners

Perfect fit on the stewmac necks. Nice flathead screws look vintage. Tuning feel is ok, not like Waverly's but good enough.

replacement machines

By
(Customer's Reviews)

These machines look just like the original machines on my 1965 Martin 0-16NY, but have a better gear ratio. One drawback is that top most screw hole doesn't match up the old one, requiring a new hole to be drilled in the headstock. Luckily, the old screw hole is almost totally hidden. These tuners work a lot better than the original machines that came on my 0-16NY!

Just received the new tuners yesterday and installed them this morning on an old Kay acoustic. They lined up perfect and look fantastic. Really pleased with the quality. Thanks for a great product.

Golden Age Restoration Tuners for Slotted Peghead Guitar with Bell-end Baseplates

This is my second set of Golden Age Tuners. I liked 'em so much the first time I came back for seconds when the time rolled around. These went onto an older Conrad Resonator and fit perfectly both mechanically and visually. There were several obvious prior attempts at putting tuners on (all those holes were filled in first) this guitar when I'd gotten it. These tuners are on there to stay. Great product. When the need arises I'll buy them again.

Slotted Peghead Tuners

Nice tuners. First time I have replaced entire assembly. Seem to maintain tuning well. Tolerances between gear and tuner shaft could be a little tighter.

Just what I've been waiting for.

Snapped a set of the relic bell end brass up as soon as I saw they were being offered. Have enabled me to complete a 1926 0-18 renovation without compromising the vintage appearance. Look perfect and at a very economical price. Perfect for when you wish to play a vintage guitar but not weaken existing original tuners further.
