Adjustable Tension Bass Tuner Set

About This Item

High quality 22:1 gear ratio bass tuners with smooth, precise operation.

Economical bass tuners with smooth, precise operation. 22:1 gear ratio, Allen-adjustable gear tension, die-cast baseplates, slotted string posts and "elephant ear" knobs.

Screws and press-fit peghead bushings included. 23/32"-diameter pegholes required. Use a 2.5mm hex wrench to adjust the tension.

Pilot holes required: Installing delicate screws such as these into hard maple requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend using a No.50 bit for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Adjustable Tension Bass Tuner Set

By

Verified Buyer

I bought 3 sets of these tuners, configured as 2-left, 2-right for use in a line of electric upright basses built in my shop for discerning patrons playing at a high standard. The price is reasonable, and the quality of the hardware is in the league of the Schallers I used in prototypes. I am happy with the appearance and quality feel of the operating hardware. The large gauge upright bass strings are handled adequately by the large-diameter pegs and drive gears. I am still seeking larger double bass tuners, but happy with these meanwhile.

Second set for the tension screws that fell out of first set. Great tuners, but put Locktite on the screws.

Perfect for Jack Casady bass

After 19 years of everyday use, and a few falls, I had to replace my original tuners with the 3804 set.
They fit perfectly without any drilling or alterations. The price is great and the delivery time was outstanding. Thrilled.

Quality tuners for the budget minded

These are very smooth and the ratio is a most welcome upgrade over the the stock tuners on my early '90s P-Bass Plus which were VERY heavy (the reason for replacement). I can't justify spending a lot on tuners for my own instruments and I am impressed with the quality of these for the price.
I will definitely recommend these to my customers who are on a budget.

Great quality - made them work on a Gibson Grabber

I was given an old Gibson Grabber that had one tuner bushing missing. I couldn't find a bushing so I decided to replace all the tuners. I knew that these wouldn't fit without making some modifications but the price was right and I was confident I could make them work. I had to enlarge the peg hole, fill the old screw holes with epoxy and mount them slightly canted because the A & D tuners are very close together. They look and work great. These are really high quality, very solid machines, much better than the original Gibson/Schaller units. I believe the Schaller replacements that cost twice as much would mount without any mods but their stamped base plate doesn't compare to the die cast base plate of theses. One word of caution, make sure you drill your pilot holes for the screws large enough and deep enough. The screw heads are pretty soft. I almost ruined one.

Good quality bass tuners

For the price these appear really decent quality. Good chrome plating and there is no slack in the gearing whatsoever plus tension is adjustable which is a bonus. They fitted my Epiphone EB0 with minimal problem. The hole diameter was spot on and I left the original bushes in which were really tight and match these tuners.
They have tuned up easily and are holding tune with no slippage. Let's hope they stay like this long term. That depends on the quality of the gears and only time will tell on that but there are reports on here of them being just as good after a reasonable time so I'm optimistic. The backing plates are larger than the Epiphone originals and the screws don't quite line up but there's plenty of room on the head for them and it's easy enough to put new screw holes in. The new tuners cover the original holes so they look great. A good buy even with postage to UK and customs didn't bother trying to charge me import duty or tax which was a bonus.

great tuners, good price

These work beautifully on my Squier VM Mustang bass. They don't fit original screw holes, however fit perfectly on the head. As previously noted by another reviewer the screws strip easily. Naturally I had filled the old holes and pre-drilled for the new ones. You need a tiny philips head w/ a decent sized handle. I stripped 2 of 16. Use caution or buy better screws before you start. Also, why not include the 2.5mm hex screw? I have 4 sets of hex screws, no 2.5 so this kit will require a trip to the hardware store. W/o that hassle 5 stars.
