Gotoh offers knob options

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought a used Yamaha AEX500N2 in black. The volume control knob is ebony. The turners knobs were the pearloid type that were glued in place (no screw for easy replacement of knobs). You gotta love StewMac, in there catalog a few options presented themselves and I choose the Gotoh #5837 (ebony knobs w/ screws) - so I can still have the option for custom knobs in the future...if I get crazy again.

An essential component not an afterthought

By
(Customer's Reviews)

There is an old saying, 'you wouldn't think of ruining a ship for a ha'p'orth of tar.' No more, a quality instrument. After spending good materials and labor why fit it up with the cheapest tuners. These are a quality job at an economical cost. The detail includes thrust washers in the bearings to give a constant smooth action. There is no slop in the motion giving the player real control and fine tuning...a perfect job for a perfect finish. Only one detail to watch. The barrels are 9.95 to 10.05 mm dia. My 10mm drill is 9.95mm, so rendering a hole that is a tad tight and some gently reaming needed for a good fit.

The mysterious rattle

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I recently purchased my third pair of Gotoh clasical guitar tuners. They look good, to me, work great and are reasonably priced. However, after I installed this set, with ebony knobs, I noticed a rattling noise while playing the instrument. I looked every where on the instrument to find "the mysterious rattle". Then one day, as I picked up the instrument, I heard the rattle without even playing the guitar. As I shook the guitar, I noticed that the rattle was comimg from the tuners. The tiny screws that hold the tuning knobs in place were not holding the washers tight and they were all vibrating while playing the instrument. The fix was to shorten each screw about 1/16" so the screw would not bottom out, but tighten the washer against the knob. That's it, problem solved.

Excellent Tuning Machines

By
(Customer's Reviews)

These are great tuning machines, built very solid, elegant and not too flashy. They stay in tune well, have a smooth feel to the mechanics and the price is reasonable. They are all I use on my Nylon string instruments.
