Five-Star Banjo Tuning Pegs

About This Item

The most famous name in banjo pegs. Exclusively from Stewart-MacDonald. For over 35 years Five-Star® pegs are the choice of players and builders for quality and reliable tuning.

The 4:1 ratio planetary gearing is a compact traditional design that provides fast, accurate tuning.

Machined brass gear case and shafts, brass ring gear, steel pinion gears and sealed lubrication ensure durability for long life. The handsome removeable pearlescent plastic knobs have adjustable tension screws for the right feel.

Five-Star pegs fit standard 3/8" (10.00mm) diameter pegholes, and include threaded hex bushings with peghead washers. They fit 7/16" to 3/4" (11.11mm to 19.05mm) peghead thicknesses.

Our Five-Star 5th String Peg is also available.

Great tuners!

Replaced tuners on a '27 Gibson TB3. Yes I kept the originals.

Perfect fit, very smooth

I replaced the factory tuners on my Fender FB-54, which were jerky and hard to get in tune. The Five-Stars fit perfectly, and are smooth as silk.

My favourite Planetary tuners

By

Superb build quality. Smooth gearing. Very reliable. Fits a wide range of peg-head thicknesses, 12mm to 16mm. Dished washer protects the finish. Small diameter string post for good string-lock. Room for several neat wraps of the string. Good range of alternative buttons available. As a builder and repairer I get to see the competition and Stew Mac beats them all.

Perfect Match

A replacement for the original broken tuners on a genuine Dobro five string Guitar/Banjo was needed. This instrument is now back in the hands of my customer, delighted at the result.

Pas mal du tout!

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Not the best looking

By

No doubt these tuners will outlast me, but the knobs/buttons are over-sized and cheap looking plastic. I installed the Five-Stars on an inexpensive banjo, but would not use them on a vintage or high-end instrument unless better knobs could be sourced first.

EXCELLENT

For a Silver Bell tenor banjo I needed planet tuning pegs, and for the first time I ordered the Five-Star Banjo Tuning Pegs. Wow! They are really good, because they work so very very good! And equipped with these Amber swirl plastic knobs they are excellent.

Impressed

Having used about every cheap tuner known to man, it is finally fun to grab one that is solid, smooth, consistent, well done, no more cheap tuners for me, Five Star from now on.

I've been buying from Stewmac since the early 1980's. Everything is top notch and delivered quickly. I can't say any better from any company!

A good, dependable banjo tuner

By
(Customer's Reviews)

A good tuner for most tenor, plectrum & 5-string banjos - they seem happy enough with the low G on most Irish tenors up to around 0.046"W. They are really a bit too big for uke banjos - not suitable as a replacement on Ludwigs, for instance. They don't seem to like a lot of sideways stress on the string post so it's probably wise to avoid using them for an old-fashioned cello-, contra-bass or bass-banjo.
