Five-Star 5th String Banjo Peg

About This Item

Our popular right-angle peg with string post, featuring 14:1 gear ratio for smooth, precise tuning.

The 5-Star 5th string peg is a high quality traditional worm-gear design. The pearlescent plastic knob matches our Five-Star Banjo Tuning Pegs.

This tuner requires a tapered peghole in the banjo neck (see our 5th Peg Reamer). Splines and a small “fin” hold the peg firmly and prevent rotation in the neck. Glue is not necessary in a correctly tapered hole.

Setting up a banjo's 5th string: nut, capos and peg

Excellent geared peg

This 5-Star geared tuner replaced a broken tuner on my longneck. Stewart-MacDonald service was great - the tuner arrived a couple of days after I ordered it online, and I installed it in time for a gig that afternoon. Thanks, Stew-Mac!

Works fine. Much better than the old one.

The old peg was very touchy and the new one is smooth and can be adjusted in very small amounts.

5-star fifth string tuner

These tuners are good. I have one problem. I never leave the button that comes with it and always have to shorten the screw to prevent it from bottoming out before it snugs up. I'd love it If the stock buttons were the same height as the other available options. Seems like it should be an easy fix.

Got the Five-Star 5th String Banjo Peg in very short time. Really nice item! I would recommend it to a friend.

Gibson friction peg replacement

By

Bought one these years ago but never installed it because I didn't want to ream my 1960's Gibson mahogany neck.
I just started teaching, (and tuning more) lately. and decided to try the 5 Star that's been laying around, before ordering a Waverly.

Much to my surprise, it pushed right into the existing hole, with only hand pressure.

Seems that even though the nominal size is larger, the splines are deeper and it just softly seated in the mahogany. Even the big positioning spline

I may eventually upgrade to waverly just because it looks more vintage, but for now, the 5 star holds tune perfectly and operates smoothly, what more could you ask. My old and aged Gibson peg slipped right on too, so the look isn't too modern.

No more cheap tuners

I finally took the plunge and quit buying cheap tuners and do not regret it. Smooth as silk, the engraving adds a quality touch and the StewMac service is always a plus, thanks!

At first I was a little skeptical, but once installed the skepticism disappeared instantly. Light years better than the cheap tuner that was original equipment
