Details

Our popular right-angle peg with string post, featuring 14:1 gear ratio for smooth, precise tuning.

The 5-Star 5th string peg is a high quality traditional worm-gear design. The pearlescent plastic knob matches our Five-Star Banjo Tuning Pegs.

This tuner requires a tapered peghole in the banjo neck (see our 5th Peg Reamer). Splines and a small “fin” hold the peg firmly and prevent rotation in the neck. Glue is not necessary in a correctly tapered hole.

No more cheap tuners

By Ron Brown from Rapid City, South Dakota

I finally took the plunge and quit buying cheap tuners and do not regret it. Smooth as silk, the engraving adds a quality touch and the StewMac service is always a plus, thanks!

At first I was a little skeptical, but once installed the skepticism disappeared instantly. Light years better than the cheap tuner that was original equipment

Nice Tuner

I bought this to replace a missing 5th string tuner on an Epiphone 5-string banjo. This unit is slightly oversize, so provided a good, snug fit. The tuner action is very smooth and positive. A great product!

I am a newbie on the banjo after years 46 yrs of guitar and bass I started with the banjo, the friction tuner on my import was a pain this made it much easier to stay in tune in the 5th string and enjoy

Old standby

I have used 5 Star tuners on my banjos for years. They are smooth and accurate with no slipping. I only wish they would come with less tacky knobs so I would not have to buy ivoroid knobs seperately every time.

a good general-purpose 5th string tuner

nicely engineered & reasonably priced. worth spending the extra money to buy one of the alternate buttons that are available for this type - the standard buttons are a bit clunky.

Replaced the old tuner with no problem. A little adjustment on the angle and hole size but with little or no problem. Smooth and easy to tune now. I recomend this to all.

HUGE step up from a Friction Peg for minimal price

By Fiskoni from Des Moines
(Customer's Reviews) Thursday, February 09, 2012

I'm a guitar player who bought and loved an older Silvertone banjo. However, that friction fifth peg drove me bonkers. If you have one, you probably know what I mean.

I bought this one, not wanting to put a bunch of money in the banjo, just wanting to make it playable, along with item # 5017 to replace the tired original cheap tuners. For about $26 and some elbow grease, it's like a have a new banjo. It stays in tune, retunes when I change into a new tuning, and is just overall much more fun.
