Truss Rod Cover Screw

About This Item

Tiny but tough! Case-hardened steel truss rod cover screws for guitars, banjos, mandolins, and more. Slotted screws are found on many vintage instruments—great for restorations. Choose Phillips-head screws for a modern look.

These screws are 1/4" (6.35mm) in length and come in two thread diameters: 0.099" (2.5mm) for most modern instruments and a hard-to-find 0.086" (2.18mm) for vintage replacements. Sold individually.

Tip: Use a depth-stop drill bit or mark your bit with a piece of tape so you don't drill through the headstock.

Don't strip the heads!

By

Verified Buyer

I bought some of these for my Gibson SG and my Epiphone Sheraton. The ones for the Sheraton were fine, but a little loose. I should've checked the length on the ones for the Gibson, though, because they were a little long and I ended up partially stripping out the heads on them! I'm a little disappointed at how easily this happened because it appears they are not of very high quality. A stronger screw would've have stripped so easily.

Gold is not very gold

I have been very happy with StewMac for many purchases over the years but the gold truss rod cover screws look nothing like the gold in the picture. Here is a picture of them next to a gold neck screw from StewMac (a colour I consider gold).

Not so gold

Honestly, I purchased a whole bunch of gold hardware, screws, etc for a Les Paul Custom restore and find that these screws barely looked gold and not really like the photos on the site.

Works for what they are, could have been a bit longer

I ordered the gold phillips head. These are fairly short, they work, but not nearly as long as the Taylor screws they replaced. (Changed to match the new antique gold tuners). By the way, as a bonus, they actually look more "antique" finish than bright gold as shown in the photo, which is exactly what I needed.

Screws

Well the fold I talked to at stewmac were great and very accomodating, but here's the problem. I ordered 5 Philips screws along with many other products. When I received my order they sent me straight head screws instead. I called and they apologized and said they would sent out the philip screws right away. I said fine. So I get my order and guess what.... They sent me straight head screws AGAIN!!!! So it took them 3 times to get a simple order of screws right! Someone's not paying attention.
